Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo. Bracongo versus Bralima (January, 2016) with Samsung NX200.
The two largest breweries in the Democratic Republic of Congo are Bracongo and Bralima. The way that the brewing business in the DRC works is that breweries form a relationship with independent bars. This relationship is done on contract - signed for a set period of time - where the bar agrees to only stock and sell products from a particular brewery and, in exchange, receives refrigerators, tables, chairs, etc., from that brewery (with the brewery’s logo printed everywhere). Bralima is a subsidiary of Heineken and the largest brewery in the country. They produce Primus, Heineken, Mützeg, Turbo King (the worst beer I have ever had), and Coca Cola products. Bracongo is owned by a Jewish man who has lived in the country for over 80 years and produces Skol, 33 Export, Doppel Munich, Tembo, and - my personal favorite - Simba, as well as a line of soft drink products called D’Jino.
Competition between the two companies is fierce with each one trying to sign musicians to lucrative record labels to promote their products. For more on the brewing business in Congo, read this article from Foreign Policy.
