Day 8 BQE
The "Triple Cantilever" is a New York City Department of Transportation-maintained structure running through Brooklyn Heights. This section of Interstate 278 (I-278), also known as the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway or BQE, is split into two overhanging roadways, sandwiched between Furman Street, a local thoroughfare, on the bottom and the Brooklyn Heights Promenade, a public park, on the top. The unconventional design made use of limited space for a freeway in an urban area and is now an ongoing maintenance issue for the city due to the substandard materials and methods used at the time of its construction.
