“this is the longest time since we met that i haven’t heard your voice,” he says, voice rough. he glances at david, even more unsure where they stand than before, unsure if david’s asleep from the steady rise and fall of his chest. his grip tightens around the glass. “ - y’know, uh, like you saw - i-i didn’t expect her to kiss me. i sure as fuck didn’t want it,” resting the glass on his chest, frank smiles against a memory of his own through gritted teeth, “y’know, i probably should’ve known, right? i brought maria peonies the first time we broke up. we had ‘em in our garden, with some forget-me-nots - and - some other shit. it was probably really fucking dumb of me, i guess, i don’t know - it’s just - ”

frank looks at david again, shakes his head. polishes off the rest of his glass and fills it up with a few fingers again. soon enough, he’ll be where david is, even if you’re not supposed to drink the strong good shit like this like a shot. he’s never known how to appreciate the good shit in life anyway.
