Ganondorf realises pretty quickly that the ‘weapons and shields break if you use them enough’ rule also applies to him. Good thing he didn’t bring anything too valuable with him. 

This means that although he’s got his magic (he can shoot fireballs! In fact, he shot fireballs at Link when he first appeared), it drains him after long usage, and he also needs to scavenge weapons from monsters and buy new when needed. and he has a limited inventory, just like Link. 

He isn’t impressed. It’s very degrading, actually. He was a King. He’d made himself King. And now this. Life isn’t fair.

Another thing is that clearly, he doesn’t have a horse. He has to tame one. Link is dumbstruck when he finds out that Ganondorf - the precursor to the Calamity - is actually good with horses and pats them and gives them apples. 

He makes every attempt not to be obviously emotional when he finds the Giant Horse in the wild, and Link’s Hyrule Compendium says that it’s the ‘last of its kind’. Link can’t help but notice the way he gets very obviously sentimental over how the stable equips the horse with what’s basically a version of Ganondorf’s own riding tack. 

Ganondorf basically going ‘oh shit’ and ‘crap’ a lot right around when he realises he is not immune to the Calamity’s malice. It still hurts him. It could, theoretically, create yet another split timeline by killing him off so that when Link wakes up again, there is no Ganondorf to fight.

So, what’s a guy to do but try and defend himself from it, right?

But then there’s the Divine Beasts, that supposedly only the Champions can get into, and Link outright tells him that if he tried to follow he’d just get underfoot while he drove out the malice.

And then there’s the Calamity itself - and Ganondorf has to admit, when he sees his first glimpse, that doesn’t look like a person anymore - and he’s followed all the way through Hyrule Castle. His Hyrule Castle. He remembers the renovations he’d done, and this Castle is torn up and broken and no good at all. And then there it is. The Calamity. 

He’s disgusted and horrified because, well, what is that. And then there’s no more time to wonder because oh goddesses, it’s attacking. And it has a distortion of his face. And it’s trying to kill him. It’s literally either fight or die.

And then the beast turns into Ganon, which Ganondorf at this point? Doesn’t know about. He hasn’t done that yet. Not had the rage. Not been killed. And Link’s the only one with the Bow of Light, Zelda’s the only one with Triforce power (although the Goddesses are rather amused at how, for the first time, Wisdom, Power, and Courage are all working toward a common goal), and he just.

“So what am I supposed to do?!”

And Link, not having the time for this, just goes-

“Just stay over there, look intimidating, and don’t get flattened!”
