More things from what Iâm now calling the âTime in the Wild AUâ.
Ganondorf realises pretty quickly that the âweapons and shields break if you use them enoughâ rule also applies to him. Good thing he didnât bring anything too valuable with him.Â
This means that although heâs got his magic (he can shoot fireballs! In fact, he shot fireballs at Link when he first appeared), it drains him after long usage, and he also needs to scavenge weapons from monsters and buy new when needed. and he has a limited inventory, just like Link.Â
He isnât impressed. Itâs very degrading, actually. He was a King. Heâd made himself King. And now this. Life isnât fair.
Another thing is that clearly, he doesnât have a horse. He has to tame one. Link is dumbstruck when he finds out that Ganondorf - the precursor to the Calamity - is actually good with horses and pats them and gives them apples.Â
He makes every attempt not to be obviously emotional when he finds the Giant Horse in the wild, and Linkâs Hyrule Compendium says that itâs the âlast of its kindâ. Link canât help but notice the way he gets very obviously sentimental over how the stable equips the horse with whatâs basically a version of Ganondorfâs own riding tack.Â
Itâs actually then that Link realises that as alone as he is in the future of one hundred years on, this guy, this Ganondorf, a self-proclaimed bringer of darkness, is just as adrift in time, and almost even more alone. Nothing is familiar, and anything that is, is destroyed, broken, changed, different. No one is still alive that he knows or knew. The Divine Beasts are named after those that were alive in legend, but Ganondorf knew them (on bad terms, yes, but knew them) personally.Â
I just wanna say - more and more I'm feeling like BotW Zelda is my favourite version of her. She's got so much personality and character depth. She isn't just a barrier maiden, and if I had to say who was probably the most badass in the entire game, I think I'd say HER.

Related to that one AU idea I detailed out-
Ganondorf basically going âoh shitâ and âcrapâ a lot right around when he realises he is not immune to the Calamityâs malice. It still hurts him. It could, theoretically, create yet another split timeline by killing him off so that when Link wakes up again, there is no Ganondorf to fight.
So, whatâs a guy to do but try and defend himself from it, right?
But then thereâs the Divine Beasts, that supposedly only the Champions can get into, and Link outright tells him that if he tried to follow heâd just get underfoot while he drove out the malice.
And then thereâs the Calamity itself - and Ganondorf has to admit, when he sees his first glimpse, that doesnât look like a person anymore - and heâs followed all the way through Hyrule Castle. His Hyrule Castle. He remembers the renovations heâd done, and this Castle is torn up and broken and no good at all. And then there it is. The Calamity.Â
Heâs disgusted and horrified because, well, what is that. And then thereâs no more time to wonder because oh goddesses, itâs attacking. And it has a distortion of his face. And itâs trying to kill him. Itâs literally either fight or die.
And then the beast turns into Ganon, which Ganondorf at this point? Doesnât know about. He hasnât done that yet. Not had the rage. Not been killed. And Linkâs the only one with the Bow of Light, Zeldaâs the only one with Triforce power (although the Goddesses are rather amused at how, for the first time, Wisdom, Power, and Courage are all working toward a common goal), and he just.
âSo what am I supposed to do?!â
And Link, not having the time for this, just goes-
âJust stay over there, look intimidating, and donât get flattened!â
âOh, thatâs so useful.â
