She couldn't handle it anymore. She'd lost everything. Her parents, her husband and daughter, and now her newborn son. She felt empty, like nothing mattered anymore.
She stood at the edge of a roof, looking down at the ground, specks of people walking by, unaware. She'd left a note. Whether anyone found it or not, she didn't care.
Tears blurred her vision as she stared down, thinking about everyone she was going to leave behind.
Baccant. Her heart ached as she thought of him. Gods, what was he going to do when she's gone? Would he start hurting himself again? Would he go back and forget about her? She hoped he would. He didn't need this, to know that she'd died over something like this. She just wished she'd spent more time with him. Told him she loved him. How much she cared. That she was sorry. For everything.
Ayla. She'd made a deal with her, that she wouldn't follow in Swift's footsteps, but.. It was too late to go back now. To not make that deal. Would Ayla follow her? Would she move on and just be happy with Sebastian? Swift hoped she'd be strong enough to not follow her. To move on.
And what about Sebastian? She hadn't seen him in years, but she still cared for him. She wondered how he'd react, knowing his adopted mother was gone.
Tiana. Her best friend. Oh gods, what would she do? Swift had stuck by her friend for a long time, and she considered her a sister. What would she do, discovering that Swift had killed herself? What would she say?
And the others. So many others. What would they do? Would they shrug off her death, as if they expected it? Would they mourn? Would they even care?
She took a deep shuddering breath, feeling an odd calm settle over her. She was ready.
It wasn't a long fall, just long enough to kill her. But in that last second, right before she hit the ground, she realized she'd forgotten to say something.
