Feature: Borderline:Fire Interview chat with Noise Addiction
Words: Charlie Wallis
Reading rockers 'Borderline:Fire' have taken the time to talk to us about dismembering animals, their new mini album and their plans for the future. These guys pack a real punch and their latest release is bound to take the UK music scene by storm. Hit the jumnp to see what the lads had to say to us and make sure to check them out on Facebook here
For someone that's never heard your music before, how would you describe yourselves your sound and your live performance?
In terms of our sound, quite loud and in your face hard rock with pop and dance elements. The live show is just this with an extra dosage of energy and moshing - sweat everywhere!
What made you choose the name Borderline:Fire?
It's such a boring story it's not even worth telling, but once we chose this we realised a while later how perfect it was for us, we like the idea of the borderline being the concept of boundaries both physical and mental, with the fire striking an image of destruction and passion.
In your press photo it shows you destroying a sheep...what have sheep ever done to you and do you see sheep desecration becoming a wider problem as you start to get more and more press attention?
Well... it's actually a bunny, but sheep are evil animals too. The rabbit relates back to our artwork which is all to do with magic and trickery and the bunny out of the hat being a typical trick... Us ripping this up was just some fun that we thought would work well to lighten mood of of our image.
You've previously described your drummer Chaz as a “ginger gorilla with rolling pins”, firstly, how does he feel about this comparison and what animals would you compare the rest of the band to?
(Chaz says) I've always taken it as a small compliment to the fact I hit drums very hard, and hitting stuff can be quite fun. But to get revenge Jonny is a close relation to my species as he is a monkey boy, Stack is an odd kind of animal called the Oompahlumpah, Ben is a slow minded Goldfish and Jamie bears the resemblance of an angry yeti type creature - maybe even Chewbacca!
You have a new Ep out “This is Trojan State” (which we're loving), could you tell us a little bit about that title and how you approached writing the mini album?
It followed a discussion before we'd gone into the recording studio and were running through ideas of concept for the e.p. The idea behind the word "Trojan" was deception and trickery which we felt was happening in society as a whole, with the The Trojan Horse being an example of the ultimate trick. The word "State" we felt could be perceived as a state of mind, an untidy mess, or even an establishment, but we liked how this word left this quite open for interpretation.
Finally what's next for Borderline:Fire?
We have already begun writing new material... Some which we will be showcasing at our EP launch. We will be touring and playing as many shows as possible to promote the EP as well as creating more videos before the end of the year. Hopefully next year we will release a new EP or album as we feel it's important to back this EP with as much fresh material as possible.
"This Trojan State" is released on September 23rd. Make sure to keep Noise Addiction in your favorites as we'll be doing an album giveaway closer to the time!
