SORRY I WAS LATEE

she wanted to know how i did this so i just decided to do a similar one

side not for beginners: save in every 10 minutes!! seriously!!!

i used photoshop cs 5.1 but i guess it will work with any other edition

STEP 1

You will need a big canvas. A really big canvas because the bigger your work is, the better the quality is. And also it’s not that noticeable if you fuck up something. So go to File > New (or just Ctrl + N). For first I used a 1000x1000px canvas.

So that’s what you get. Wow so many work.

After this choose a light color for the background and use the paint bucket tool to fill the layer. I named it base.

Then you will need a circle.

A long click on that icon and that’s what you will see. We will need the ellipse one.

Hold Shift while you are making the ellipse - this will make it into a decent circle. Important to use a color which is darker than your background so you will see what you will work with.

So this is how it looks. Don’t worry if your circle isn’t in the centre, you can move it anytime you want with the move tool.

STEP 2

Now that you’ve got all of these you have to open the picture of your chosen person in PS (File > Open or Ctrl + O). Then you will need to cut them out. Quick tutorial about cutting out people.

Then grab the figure and just drag it over to your workplace.

STEP 3

As you can see his legs look like the light pink paint was splashed on it. This is because I erased a bit of it with a watercolor brush. You can download some cool brushes at DeviantArt.

STEP 4

Okay now we have a person and a background shape but it’s still blank. Open your watercolor texture in PS. I used this one but you can find some on Google and DeviantArt. Grab the texture and just drop it onto your canvas. If it’s too small and don’t cover the circle, don’t worry, use the moving tool and drag any heel of it. Hold Shift to keep the shape.

So now your texture pretty much covers everything. Just grab the layer and move it under the layer of your person’s shape. Your layers will be in this order:

And your work will look something like this:

Ta-da! Now we need the texture to be the shape of the circle. Right click on the layer > Create Clipping Mask

STEP 5

After that step i added adjustment layers such as like vibrance, brightness/contrast and channel mixer and i also changed the opacity of the texture layer to make it kind of darker. Don’t forget to make all the new layers into clippink masks. Everything is up to you, experience!

I also suggest you to use groups. It helps you to be more organized and not to get lost.

STEP 6

The circle looks like kind of - meh. We will need bit of a shadow. Double click on the layer of your circle (anything pops up just hit ok) and use drop shadow. These are the properties I used:

WE WILL MAKE THE SPLASHES! YAY!

So make a new layer (it’s important to be under the layer of your cut out person) and use the eyedropper tool to use a color which is in your texture. Use a watercolor brush to make some splashes in the area of the legs and then choose another color and another brush. Do it like 3 or 4 times.

This is how it’s supposed to look like. Use a soft edged brush at the opacity of 60% and erase the parts of the splashes which are in the circle. This will “merge” the two layers.

STEP 8

Now we will work with Michael because he is so ignored, isn’t he?

WARNING: for this step I used a special effect, called Topaz Clean. Download here.

So I kind of want him to look like he is painted too. Go to Filter > Topaz Labs > Topaz Clean. Use the Cartoon Detailed filter. You can change the properties, you can make him more “painted” or more realistic, everything is up to you. These are the properties I used:

So his hands and clothes look cartoony but he is still recognizeable.

STEP 9

It still doesn’t look like how I want it to. Oh, yeah, Mike needs shadow too. You can use layer style to make this, that’s easy and quick but I didn’t like how that had turned out.

Duplicate the layer of your person’s shape and then make a new one. It’s important to place the blank layer between the two of the person’s shape layer. So, like this:

Fill the blank layer with black and then create a clipping mask. Select the layer which is at the bottom and just move it a bit. The result:

It’s really strong, so cartoony so we will need a blur. Go to Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur. I used radius 7,4px. Then use a soft edged brush to erase the shadow from the bottom of his legs and all the unwanted areas.

It’s nice, isn’t it? I decided that the background color is too pink so I just changed it for a greyer one.

Then I cropped the picture to the size of 900x700px because that’s what I prefer. For first I changed the image size (Image > Image size) to 900x900px and then changed the canvas size (Image > Canvas Size) to 900x700px as well.

STEP 10

WATERMAAAAAARK.

Choose a font, a color and a size you like and then just type your username in. It’s not a big stuff but I will show you how to arc it.

I changed the opacity as well.

So you are using the type tool and you can see this little buddy right up there:

Click on it and select the style arc. Bend it with like +14%. Depends on where you wanna place your watermark but you will find it out! After this you can do whatever you want with it with the moving tool.
