I get that the Jon ship discourse can be frustrating, but why do some Jonsas act like not shipping Jonsa means you’re undermining Sansa’s role in the story? Jon has minimal influence on her storyline, and Sansa rarely thinks about him at all. Wanting her to end up with someone kind and close to her age is understandable, but that’s not what every fan is looking for in fandom life 😭 some people are drawn to the darker, more complicated relationships in her story because those dynamics are already there! This book series may never even get an ending anyway.
well i mean. right there is part of your answer - people undermine Sansa’s role in the story by undercutting the Jon-Sansa canon relationship as well as Sansa’s canon role within the story to focus on three characters that exist within the story to undercut her role within her life.
i have literally dozens of posts talking about how i find it ridiculous that people insist they aren’t important to each other or that they have no impact on each other’s stories. the inheritance issue is brought to jon through sansa’s marriage - that’s literally where the lady lannister line comes from is jon’s chapters. people say she doesn’t think about him - imo, people focus on that aspect to ignore the fact that he thinks about her at least once a book! - but sansa doesn’t think about anyone very often because it’s how she copes. nonetheless, he is on her mind - in fact, the last time we saw her, she’s cosplaying as jon! that’s what alayne is!! she’s a 14 year old dark haired prickly bastard who doesn’t like to dance. our introduction to jon is that he’s a dark haired prickly bastard and he famously refuses to dance in adwd. he IS on her mind, and the sound of a wolf brings to her mind both her real identity and her last living brother’s wolf. this is exactly why so many jonsas are so prickly - there’s just this very obvious link between them that gets completely glossed over because it’s “jonsa shit” but that’s not real analysis nor is it an accurate depiction of either of their characters.
i also think there’s this projection going on here - even the most hardcore “they’re gonna be king & queen together and live happily ever after” jonsas will tell you that jonsa in and of itself is not going to be some sort of get out of invest free card. there’s an entire dark jonsa & tragic jonsa school of thought here. not to be SUPER wanky but we’re not targcest lovers lmao we’re not out here going “well there will be no consequences emotionally for this one” it’s a COMPLETE projection that the appeal of jonsa is the same as the appeal of aegony which is “nice boy around her age.” it’s more complicated than that. yeah sure for some people that’s some of it and i have also said several times that IF sansa has a healthy relationship it’s going to be with someone around her age. but just being close in age doesn’t make the issues go away and in fact that gets at one thing that IRKS the hell out of me wrt how people tlak about the starks - this idea that if it's "darker" it's more complex. that's simply not true! no one is saying brienne isn't super complex and she is arguably the lightest character in this series. no one is saying davos isn't complex despite him being considered one of the moral voices. but when you say ned or sansa or bran have an equally complex but just lighter arc suddenly it's "you don't appreciate the dark parts of sansa's story." i literally ship theonsa. i'm well aware of the dark parts of sansa's story as are other jonsas, and the lighter aspects aren't less complex. she's not less complex just because she might end up happier.
as for ship dynamics - listen, you can be drawn to sanrion & petsa all you want but her marriage to tyrion exists to challenge & undercut her own stark identity and lf is literally trying to replace her father to become her father-husband. my comparison here is brynden, and i’ve said this before - people frame the story as if the villain in sansa/bran’s story arc is the main character but SANSA is the main character. littlefinger is NOT going to be successful in corrupting her, he is the temptation that she will overcome because his dreams for her are not the same as her dreams for herself. similarly, sansa is NOT going to actually become lady lannister anymore than she will become lady arryn. that is an obstacle she will overcome. but what passes for analysis of sansa outside the jonsa fandom is this idea that what castle she’s in doesn’t matter because she’s just going to be a lady anyway, and that’s directly undercutting her role as heiress and her continued longing for winterfell to say that her identity, her arc, doesn’t matter. but saying "i think acting like sansa can just marry whoever and end up lady of whatever castle is undercutting her story as a whole" is taken as like, pushing a jonsa agenda. but is it our fault if we're the only ones pointing out that sansa has more to her story than the people antagonizing her? people act like we make her story about a man while insisting that the only real and true analysis of her character is....Three Men. well no, i'm making her story about what it is which is more than the man she ends up with. it's about her family, it's about winterfell - and jon is a part of that whether anti jonsa people like it or not!
Once they had been six, five whimpering blind in the snow beside their dead mother, sucking cool milk from her hard dead nipples whilst he crawled off alone. Four remained … and one the white wolf could no longer sense. — ADWD, JON I

Summary:
When he comes home to her, she’s unaware of his arrival. She is sitting in her window, and he can almost hear the laughter of the gods as his eyes trace the long auburn curls falling over her shoulders, rippling down her back. He knows they have a sense of humor when he realizes Sansa is brushing her hair.
I want you to know that your jonsa meta changed my life a little (I first became a part of this fandom when the show began, and I read them the books then as well. I’ve recently come back to it thanks to House of the Dragon) and so I’m reading acok and this made me yell.
I haven’t read a new (to me!) theory I believe in more now HAHA. It really changed the game for me…I want to believe. I shipped them in the ye olden days but I didn’t believe we had a chance in hell. And now…well let’s just say I dream of a jonsa spring….
oh yeah the chapter transitions are really popular within the jonsa fandom. i'm kinda 50/50 on them - the thing is some of them ARE very interesting and weird but it could be coincidence. i mean this very famous jonsa meta is a good example of that. i think the chapter changes in f&b are very suspicious and could very well be hinting at stuff. or like in a dance with dragons the first three chapters are very suspiciously jon, dany, and tyrion who is literally about to meet aegon vi. this happens a lot with bran & dany in the first book imo, there's a lot of times where their chapters are clustered together and they're going through really similar Weird MAgic Stuff.
that's a really great one tho, there's a few times where a jon and sansa follow each other where one of them is talking about like The Pain Of Love or something and then the other is right after. it's very hmmmmm.

my brain before sleeping: Jon thought - if Sansa saw the Wall, she would cry from the beauty. When Ygritte started crying, Jon wanted to comfort her… A romantic impulse, an intimate moment.
The boy wanted to comfort the crying red-haired girl on the Wall.
THE GIRL IN GREY
I have seen your sister in my fires, fleeing from this marriage they have made for her. Coming here, to you. A girl in grey on a dying horse, I have seen it plain as day. It has not happened yet, but it will. She had not thought of Jon in ages. He was only her half brother, but still . . . with Robb and Bran and Rickon dead, Jon Snow was the only brother that remained to her.

The truth of Jon’s birth has both given and stolen from him the greatest thing he has ever known. “Your Grace,” he says with a nod to Sansa, intending to allow her to dismiss him.
“No,” she says, louder and firmer than she has spoken thus far. Then, softly, “Please. I am not your queen in this moment.”
