I don't have a problem with haunting adaline I have a problem with it being marketed as a romance, Plenty of books exist with that type of subject material that's not the problem it's a problem when you market it as something romantic and to be good.
Also I think fiction affects reality as much as you let it but you also have to be self aware to make sure it affects you as much as you want it to and not everyone is that self aware.
I will say one thing and one thing only on the whole āHaunting/Hunting Adelineā being made into a movie discourseā¦
I donāt care if you love those books. I donāt care if you love Zade Meadows. I donāt care if you love dark romance (I pick up a dark romance every now and then too.) I donāt care about any of that.
My problem is the double standard that people have.
People will whine and cry about how people like āso and so character/love interestā because he sexually assaults the FMC, and she somehow still falls in love with him in a romantasy novel. (Iāll give three guess on who Iām talking about. Scroll a little on my page and the answer will come relatively quick).
And yet, in the same fucking breath, those people that are whining and crying will mention how much they worship Zade Meadows and proclaim HA as the best dark romance book theyāve ever read.
Do you see the problem there????
Or are you so blinded by hate for one of those characters that you canāt???
Like if one isnāt okay, the other one isnāt either. But one gets excused because āitās dark romanceā and itās āpart of the genreā. Because āmoralsā no longer exist in dark romance. Because itās āfictionā.
Honey, BOTH OF THEM ARE FICTIONAL!
And no, you shouldnāt have to justify loving a character, but if you are going to whine and cry about one characterās actions, I better see you whining and crying when a different character does those very same actions. The genre of the book shouldnāt fucking matter.
And P.S. the context in the book and facts on whether Zade actually rapes/SAās Adeline is moot, if the context and the fact that the character in the romantasy novel is trying to save the FMCās life is moot, too.
Thereās a literacy crisis when people donāt wanna learn new words

if a middle aged white mother wants to read ali hazelwood instead of watching an equally bad TV show I severely don't care. good books are still coming out y'all are just too lazy to look for books irl or find booktok creators who aren't insufferable.
Ah, yes, horror, a genre famously free of āproblematicā and āillegalā content
