Egos are necessary: "Good Self, BadSelf"
I did a self evaluation before writing this blog... then it hit me. Egos are necessary! Sometimes wanting to feel like the smartest person in the room isn't always a bad thing. But feeling like you need to be the smartest person in the room may be. Does your ego sometimes run amok? If you answered yes I'd like to let you in on a little secret (shhh). Having a healthy ego is not a bad thing its the unhealthy one we have to worry about. You're probably asking yourself "whats a healthy ego". Well I'm so glad you asked. Its a person that is sure of themselves and has a strong sense of who they are. Its a person that has the ability to accomplish anything they put their mind to but not overconfident to think they can do it solely by themselves.Â
Judy Smith talks about the different stages of Ego in "Good Self, Bad Self" and although I am only on Chapter 1 I have found that this book will forever change my life and join my other "favs" on the bookshelf. She quotes "Embracing your healthy ego doesn't mean being a domineering jerk or spending your days trying to make the world fit into an overblown conception of who you are, but instead it confers confidence, independence, leadership, as well as the strength to buck conventional wisdom and stand up for what you believe."
I thought to myself Yassssss Judy!! Where has this book been all my life? Some say that being bold can come off as too strong, sassy, or even egotistic. But what if you're just an individual who wants to share their passion for the vision they are trying to spread. Well Judy gives you a guide on how to manage your ego from unhealthy to healthy.
