Reminiscing about Pawley's Island, SC.
My all time favorite pic
Eh...
So y'all know I’m traveling and shit with my job. So the people I work with, I also haveta live with (and pretty much do everything else with too). Anyway, we were listening to jayz lastnight and I realized how weird it made me feel to have them sing along. I’m the only black girl in this group of 9, everyone else is white. So we listening to 99 problems and everyone singing along but do they even realize the reality of the situation? Do they realize that these aren’t just words, rather I’ll treatment. I was kinda offended that they were singing along to it. Especially parts like “cuz I’m young and I’m black and my hats real low,” “half a mil for bail cuz I’m african” and others… Before that we were listening to Kanye and he was rappin about how “a white man get paid offa alla that.”
Maybe I’m trippin, because I want to share my culture with these people so we can all grow and learn and shit. I can’t explain why but it just makes me so uncomfortable. I just be feeling like (why tf y'all singing this song?) ugh and part of me feels like that feeling is wrong but I haven’t shaken it yet.
Even today, some lady was training us and made us get up to do the nay nay. And I just refused to jump and give for these people lmao. I was absolutely NOT going to dance for them.
It's probably equivalent to black people singing the star-spangled banner or a song about freedom when it has absolutely nothing to do with them.
But whatever..
Maybe it’s jus my own insecurities.
That's deep...

"You do not need to leave your room. Remain sitting at your table and listen. Do not even listen. Simply wait. Do not even wait. Be quiet, still and solitary. The world will freely offer itself to you to be unmasked. It has no choice. It will roll in ecstasy at your feet."
