sorry if this isn't the right blog to ask! do you know why a large percentage of alters in the system would share very little if any features of the body? like in the innerworld we're all so different but like. very little if any of us share physical traits that the body actually has.
Not sure exactly - maybe it’s because different alters want autonomy and develop in different ways as they’re exposed to different stuff? Our system also shares a body, but most of us don’t identify with it.
Could have something to do with depersonalization, dissociation, and struggling to connect with yourself in your own body (we definitely experience this a lot). Our system has a lot of nonhuman alters who don’t identify with the body, likely because of how we were dehumanized and forced to dissociate away from our body’s experiences as a youngster.
Also in the headspace/inner world, headmates aren’t as bound to their body’s physical characteristics. So for those who spend a lot of time in their headspace/don’t front often, it makes sense that they may start identifying or presenting in ways that don’t match their body.
There’s probably lots of singlets who don’t identify with their body either, especially those who are otherkin, alterhuman, neurodivergent, disabled, or prone to dissociation/depersonalization.
These are our thoughts on this, anyway! There’s likely a vast variety of different reasons why a particular headmate may not identify with their body’s physical qualities.
