Transcript of Robert Kubica and Julie video
More or less accurate transcription with light description of the video from this post.
Narrator, over scenes of a girl rapidly typing Braille, showing her ribbons and a trophy, and petting a dog: This is Julie! Julie is 12 years old, attends a primary school for the vision impaired in Laski and has plenty of hobbies. She likes jogging, skiing, and practising judo. Narrator over scenes from a sponsor event in Poland: Julie likes to live her life at high speed. That's why Formula 1 races are also her great passion. She came with her dad to see Robert Kubica's car put on show. Julie, over footage of her examining the show F1 car and playing on one of the sim racing setups: "Dad would watch a lot of F1 on TV and so it began to grown on me, too: How can all this be happening so fast? How can this be so 'science fiction'?" Narrator: We decided to satisfy Julie's curiosity and send her with the whole family to... Julie [at the airport with her dad]: "But where are we flying?" Julie's Dad: "A country beginning with the letter S" Julie jumping up and down gleefully: "Spain! No kidding are we really going to Barcelona!?" Julie, over scenes of her family visiting tourist spots in Barcelona: "It was... I can't even imagine such things. It was simply my dreams coming true. Excitement... Euphoria... The joy was so great, I could hardly speak. I was very curious, I really wanted to remember everything, all the details, because I knew it was a rare opportunity like few in a lifetime. It was such a feeling... as if it were a dream... Like this can't possibly be real.” Narrator: However, the biggest surprise we left for the last day! We kept it secret to the very end. Robert Kubica [bounding up the stairs of the motor home to meet Julie with her dad]: "Hi, what's your name?" Julie: "Julie" Robert [shaking hands]: "Hi Julie, nice to meet you, I'm Robert." Julie voiceover as scenes show of Robert seated next to her patting her back, then holding her hand, as she smiles: "It was at the very beginning, as he shook hands with me... I was so awed again, I couldn't get a word out. [cut to Julie as she's back home describing that day, with an intense look on her face]: "Simply... it was a feeling I will never forget. Return to Julie voiceover as Robert explains a gear and hands it to her: "I was totally overwhelmed with excitement, joy, happiness. Because my dreams have just come true!" Robert: "I have two characteristic things by which you will know me. My right hand, which I will give you, and which, unfortunately, is a bit different after the accident." [puts his hand in Julie's, briefly] "And I have a big nose!" [laughs as Julie reaches up to feel his nose] "If there is no voice, that's why you'll always know me, by these two things!" Julie [voiceover]: "When I touched his nose, it was so cool that he didn't take himself too seriously. It's something I value very much in people. "I talked to Robert Kubica, which was a fantastic experience which brought a lot into my life. I realised that you could do everything if you only have set yourself a goal. Dreams do come true if you follow them patiently, persistently, and never lose sight of them. That's what you should be after in life. [scenes of Julie's day in the paddock and garage continue]: "I will watch Robert on TV, I will cheer him along in his efforts to achieve his biggest and smallest goals. And of course I wish him every success in F1!
“Never give up and reach for your goals, even in the face of adversity."
12-year-old Julie/a talks about her trip to Spain to meet Robert Kubica, before the 2019 season. The English-language presentation I saw at the time was much shorter, highlighting only the part where Julie was very starstruck at meeting Robert. This gives her a voice and personality and shows the day from her perspective, plus we find out where her interest in F1 came from. In Polish with English subtitles. Transcript here
Photos show Robert showing Julie around his car, seeming as though he is quite intently getting into perceiving and explaining the car via touch and hearing, as needs must she.
Robert taking a spin around the Nordschleife on a public track day
This is fun (or scary/nauseating ymmv) because not only is Bobby pretty great but the style of filming shows the speed and stresses. Maybe everyone’s seen it already but I find it worth a rewatch.
Be warned that at 7:26 there is a sudden burst of static during which Kubica ahems the speed limit where much slower cars are joining the track, choosing for some reason to drive around them instead. It would have been fun to see but also would’ve resulted in some fines for the rental company at least. Also, there’s no proper time for the lap both because he wasn’t really trying and because it’s not allowed on public track days!
Per the rental driving instructor who KUB granted a passenger seat for this vid, this was approximately the 15th lap of 36 that Robert did over three spread out days. The car is not set up for racing but has a few modifications to make it track worthy while still qualifying for Touristenfahrten days. The company lost money on repairs and tires but probably gained on publicity. Robert paid the full price, no special agreement, and was both getting some practice in for the DTM and doing some hotlaps for notables.
