I mentioned recently (unless I forgot to post it again), Genk gesticulates a lot during conversation in order to regulate his reactions. He is a person who in general is very physical+violent when expressing his emotions. Whether naturally or built up, he has a pretty good pain tolerance even as a child. He is prone to getting himself hurt consequently. This is usually unintentional but sometimes he does do things out of anger that are directly harmful to just himself. Ie he does things to hurt himself. Somethings “just happen” to hurt him but his desk slamming is a primary example of him absolutely just harming himself. There's a mini comic I have planned where you see this breakdown happen. Bobbert often has to work as a shield for him when he does this.

Was planning to order some comms so I made a quick reference sheet for Bobbert.

Anyways…

Due to various health problems, Bobbert gets sick very easily and as a child always had something up with their stomach even if it wasn't painful. Foods had to be prepared very carefully or else there'd be a high chance they'd get sick, even if only "mildly". As a child, it was at its worst, to the point they were 100% getting sick/an upset stomach if they ate out. As a teen, they still won't eat anything with raw eggs or meat that isn't well done (among other things) but their health has improved enough that unless there's a "major" food safety violation or it's a "risky" food, they won't get sick. Although they still tend not to eat out or eat anything they don't make themselves. (For example, they opted to not eat their friendsgiving dinner aside from a few bites because they felt there were too many hands working on the food, even if they personally supervised the cooking and know no health violations occurred.)

They are fine with texture and taste but never eat out unless pressured by someone they like and if it's a food that is unlikely to get them sick (in their opinion) (like baked goods). The idea of eating anything that isn’t grains, pastas or plain fruits/vegetables is a turn off because they feel like they’ll get sick. Their thinking is something like... With meats, they worry about it not being cooked properly or something else being wrong with it. With milk and dairy products, they worry about being lactose intolerant (they aren’t) or it being spoiled/filled with bacteria that will hurt their stomach (bacteria one mostly applies to yogurt). Spicy foods are a no go because 1. They just can’t handle spicy and 2. Fear of stomach issues. They generally just think restaurants are icky with so many people handling their food and how everything isn't ultra cleaned and sanitized between uses like they do.

It's important to note they can "logic" themselves into eating dishes if they aren't legitimately risky to their health (because they still have a weakened immune system, so it is still not something they should be doing according to their doctor-such as runny eggs). As a teen, it's settled into something like... they don't dislike foods they just cannot be bothered to deal with food sickness and thus have a very bland and samey diet. Because they always avoided foods so much growing up they also just do not have much appetite in general anymore (medicine messes this up anyway) and they do not crave food outside of their safe foods.

Note:

I think they have mixed feelings about fried food. I think the oil is gross to them if it isn't fresh or if it's too greasy (too much grease gives them a stomachache especially if that's the only thing they ate). But on the other hand, the high temperature makes them more comfortable eating meats and fish (as long as they aren't too thick). However, they didn't eat much fried food. It was easier to eat other things.

They take supplements.

They are very underweight but are not stunted-they were short as a child until puberty.

They definitely have digestion problems. In the sense they end up with messed up bowl movements and kinda impaired digestion. I don't have an official diagnosis for them.

Anyways, time for Bobbert's mom. Poppy Papaver. A scientist at the national science institute (name is a work in progress). Well, was. But before we get to her current fate, let's talk about how she was at the beginning.

As a child she seemed to have a normal childhood. Always smart and always quiet. Her adult self was much the same. While she was dedicated to her work and had no issues working with others, she was always so quiet and never overly passionate in the emotional sense.

Even while pregnant, she did not seem overly excited about her future child. While she prepared and followed all procedures, outside of her expanding waistline, no one would have guessed she was pregnant due to how little she discussed it. She seemed to consider Bobbert more of a science experiment. Curious about how a child from her would turn out. A science experiment she would quickly deem a failure and abandon.

While Bobbert had a myriad of health problems, Poppy never seemed overly concerned. Even Bobbert having cancer did not distress her. Medicine could solve it or not. The only thing that she ever seemed distressed (or accurately disgust) over was the fact they were intersex. They choose not to gender them male or female, for someone like them, they could only be seem as a "them" in her eyes. Really, this experiment would have never held her interest for long even if they had been perisex. She largely ignored Bobbert, staying at the institute to continue her work, leaving them with a nurse/nanny to look over them. Only occasionally visiting on her longer break periods to check on their health. Bobbert's precociousness made her further uninterested in caring for them. She did not truly seem them as child, deeming them intelligent enough to figure things out and make their own choices. If she got called about misbehavior, she would not scold them like a child but more like an adult she was quietly questioning the life choices of. Are you sure you want to do that? I hope you know what you're doing.

Like Genk's mom, she also noticed their... odd behaviors but also ignored it, deeming them smart enough to not to anything truly "stupid". While Genk's mom wished her child to be smart, Poppy did not care about Bobbert's grades. Even if they had been below average, they would not have cared. She did not expect them to be like her nor did she find any comfort in how similar they were. If anything, it further pushed her away.

I mentioned before that Genk has mega whiplash over Bobbert's 'new personality' when they meet again and while I want to make it a bit ambiguous whether or not Bobbert is masking (or how much they're masking) their 'real self' around the kids, I do think the 'pacifist' ideas they tend to spout are pretty much a lie in terms of what they actually feel. Not think but feel.

For context, Genk used to be that kid that would not think twice about his actions and just do them. Not only could he not restrain himself, he was also very quick to anger and of course the way he showed that anger was with physical and verbal attacks. He would not feel bad about it either, rarely thinking his acts were unjustified. Bobbert was one of the few people he didn't act particularly physical with (in a violent manner anyways).

(I think I mentioned this before, but Genk moves a lot when he talks. It's not so much he never had the urge to be physical with Bobbert but he had enough self-control to take it out on the environment, someone else or "exercise" it out.). Anyways back to my rant.

Unlike the current day Bobbert who would give a lecture on how violence is not the answer or otherwise try to stop any fights, child Bobbert would not. In more extreme cases they would intervene-but trust me Bobbert was basically an enabler as a child. They absolutely let Genk beat on everyone and let him get in trouble (well it's not like they could physically stop him, but you know, they didn't even attempt to dissuade him in most cases). Don't get me wrong, they did help Genk in not losing his shit at every little thing but in general, because Bobbert also was a little antisocial, they didn't really care too much about stopping Genk's outbursts, especially those against the other kids. To get more specific, Bobbert could be very selfish in when they decided to intervene. If it got in the way of their fun or would get Genk SUPER in trouble they would try and stop him. I think, deep down, they let Genk hurt the other kids is because they felt the same way even if they couldn't and wouldn't act on it themselves. Like with Beck when Genk punched him for the first time. They tried to stop him not because of any care towards Beck but because of the consequences that would occur for Genk. It actually still happens in the current time to a degree because while Genk doesn't punch people anymore, he certainly gets in their faces. And Bobbert does not stop Genk whatsoever from intimidating Beck. They may not care enough to pick fights or get mad in a meaningful capacity but oh do they enjoy seeing Beck and all the people who annoy them get smacked (literally or metaphorically for it). They don't think violence is the answer (logically) but there is a reason they are good friends with a violent person like Genk. And it's a weird thing too in the modern day where Bobbert is actually honest in how nice they act towards Beck but Beck's actions towards them means they can never truly feel bad for him. Maybe it's more accurate to say, they cannot hate him and thus can be nice because they pity him.

TLDR: Bobbert agrees that violence is not the right answer in most cases and tries to instill good morals in the younger kids, but they actually are very passively violent (not passive aggressive)/do not mind and even enjoy seeing the people they dislike or have issues with get hurt. Thus, they are a little two faced in this regard.

I finally hauled ass and decided to explain some of the anatomy of the Sugars. Cheeks are up first. You have likely noticed all of the Sugars have cheeks marks/blush. Except for medical reasons, all Sugars have this blush on their cheeks.

Furthermore, you can tell a Sugar's age from the number of lines present in their cheek marks. Each full line being a decade. These lines move and grow. Changing thickness, shifting across the cheek, and so on. Some Sugars like Vacc's mom have mutations that cause them to have special markings. Hers resemble peppermints. With the red being the age lines. In the attached art I drew a really sloppy visual of how they would change as she got older. At thirty they be evenly spaced about 120 degrees from each other (a third of a circle). Over time as the new decade line grew in, the lines would shift and when she finally hits 40 each line would be spaced 90 degrees (the circle is now in fourths). And so on for each decade she lives.

It's important to note they do grow out horizontally from a center point (or radially from the exact center in Miss Mentha's case). A full line doesn't fade in; a line begins to grow out from a center point.

(Note: I drew Fragaria's second age line too long here; it should be much shorter because she's only 12. Bobbert, being 16, would have a longer second age line but theirs would not be a full one either.)

As for color, all the blush colors vary. Lemon Drop and Genk have yellow blush and Vacc has purplish blush. Also, this is the cheek anatomy guide but let's talk about noses for a bit. The Sugar folk have blush on their noses. The lines you see are just artistic markings. Those lines don't exist on their bodies like the cheek age lines do. Nose blush tends to match cheek blush but not always. And there is no outline around the cheek marks as I tend to draw one, that's also just artistic choice.
