This is about the MJ “i don’t know you” scene and the things following it
She. Was. Valid.
She does not know peter. Their relationship is dead. Gone. Okay? And Peter, thank gods, UNDERSTANDS that.
He takes a minute to process it, of course. He’s been mourning their relationship for some 5 years, but the truth is it is gone. He’s been mourning it BECAUSE it is gone.
If they force the relationship in future movies, i will be severely disappointed because that whole plot point was perfect
If she gets her memories back. Sure. A stretch, but i understand the appeal between them.
And i bring all this up because it leads to a scene i adore.
The apology scene from Peter, to MJ. For the sexual assault (i don’t know how else to phrase it)
He knows she was NOT in control. NOT able to consent. And he addresses that. He apologises, even if she doesn’t bring it up.
Spider-man. Peter Parker. Apologises for a sexual assault that was not entirely his fault. His emotions were being used against him. And he apologises because he knows her autonomy was ignored by jean.
He addresses that it was wrong.
Little kids seeing that. Will register it AS wrong. Which is what it’s there for.
And sure him apologising is used to actually further the plot (the memory reveal… well not rlly a reveal, basically everyone after being possessed was like “what? How?” And it was kinda just.. ignored?????) but still
It’s addressed. It’s acknowledged. He apologises.
That’s a lot more than some other heroes do.
