[ surprise ] theo/eloise
âGood morning!â
It was 12:01 am and a very tired looking Theo Byron was staring at his screen door at Eloise Goddard.
âItâs... its the middle of the night.â
âI think thereâs an argument to be made that since it is now technically a new day, we can call it the morning.â
âThereâs also an argument to be made that when one can still see the moon, its night time,â Theo replied, followed by a yawn that accompanied him pushing open the screen door so Eloise could come inside.
âI just wanted to make sure I was the first one to telll you Happy Birthday,â Eloise said, holding out the small white box sheâd been carrying since her arrival.
Still half asleep, it took Theo a moment before he took the box out of her hand. He paused and pulled out the flower tucked into the baker twine that kept the box closed.
âMarigold. Your favorite,â he commented with a grin as he pulled at the twine and opened the box.
âBlackberry lemon. Your favorite,â she informed him as he broke into a grin.
âThanks, Ellie,â he closed the lid of the box. âI suppose Iâll have breakfast now.â
âYouâre welcome, Theo,â she replied. There was a moment of silence between the pair.
âI should go. I have to get to your sisterâs before anyone beats me to wishing her happy birthday first, too!â Eloise turned and pulled open the door.
âAre you in competition with someone?â Theo called as she made her way down the steps and onto the sidewalk. âShould I expect more visitors?â
âNo,â she called back. âI just donât want to take any chances!â
âSee you tomorrow, Eloise,â Theo called as he stepped back inside.
âYou mean today!â he heard her reply before he shut the door.
