I have a hard time believing that anybody with a smartphone would use it for serious DJing purpose.  At most I can see them as one shot use additions to a DJ booth; perhaps the phone is good for playing a needed beat here and there, or perhaps it can be use to trigger some type of effect down the chain of music.  But I don’t see DJs heading off to the club with Traktor DJ any time soon.  It just doesn’t make sense.  One of the biggest issues that all phones have, not just iPhones, is the ability to dock and communicate. Docking seems easy enough, but often it isn’t.  Bluetooth was created to simplify the process and ease the amount of frustration we endure when trying to have two devices communicate – but there are even more protocols that are being born and adapted.  Apple has a disadvantage, since an iPhone has a hard time being charged and plugged into anything else at the same time.  Docking stations are really the only good method of doing both, but even these are subject to hardware issues.  The new lightning port has made it difficult for users to update their docking hardware. http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2013/05/why-bluetooth-accessories/

For some of us (myself included) Bluetooth is just another wireless protocol that will never have a real use for my daily life.  At home I use a wifi router to connected devices to each other, so the need to for Bluetooth does not exist.  When I’m on the road I don’t see myself needing an earpiece to talk to people on the phone, I have no problem with putting the phone up to my ear.  I would guess that I’m a minority since I haven’t yet embraced Bluetooth.  However, I’m beginning to see how it can be useful.  When I want to connect my laptop to my smartphone, I use a USB cable – but I could just as easily use Bluetooth and have the two of them communicate. What I’m getting at here is that wireless technologies are so accessible these days that it would be hard not to use them.  One of the best applications for such a feature is the ubiquitous alarm clock.  Alarm clocks now incorporate many technologies, and the days of an annoying alarm blaring is over and done with.  With these connected to your mobile devices, it would be hard not to find a good use for wireless sound and Bluetooth.   http://www.audioholics.com/reviews/speakers/lifestyle-desktop-and-portable/geneva-lab-model-s-wireless-speaker

Going wireless is definitely a trend that is here to stay.  I would give it another twenty years before just about everything we own is wireless in some way.  Wireless power has a small footing with induction systems but it is far something we could use any device.  Cost is also a big issue since many aren’t willing to pay the steep price for induction materials just to do away with a wired cord that comes free with any device.  Although wireless internet over a router has its uses at home – its uses in the real world are actually limited.  For example, you can use your touch MIDI controller based off of your iPad, and it can connect wirelessly to Serato or any other DVS, given that that computer also has a wireless connection as well.  But what happens when you’re out and about and there is not router for miles? What you need is a device to device connection.  Bluetooth is the clear winner for now, since there aren’t any other protocols that are being heavily used.  The first step is to make wireless headphones a reality.  Once this is achieved we can begin to move on to more serious items like a standalone digital device. http://www.audioholics.com/reviews/speakers/headphones/kinivo-bth240-headphones

When a new technology is introduced to the public, the consumers have two options if they want to make a purchase.  They can either opt for the extremely expensive high end gear, which is far beyond anything they have ever seen, or they can go for a budget and cost friendly alternative.  While the cost friendly alternative is not the best of the bunch, it still gives consumers a chance to taste what is out there without breaking the bank.  The funny thing is that those budget systems are likely to be considered the worst of the worst on only a few years time.  This is the way it has always worked. Consider the first MIDI controllers that were offered for DJs.  Before Vestax came out with their VCI series, there were other cheap alternatives like the Hercules MIDI consoles which looked more like a toy than a proper DJ setup.  Still, at the time these were actually on the table as an option for DJs who wanted to go digital, but were on a tight budget.  We look at such a controller now and we can genuinely say that it is junk – but we can remember how valuable these things were in a time when the technology was new. http://www.audioholics.com/reviews/speakers/lifestyle-desktop-and-portable/zagg-origin-2-in-1
