No pics, because there’s really nothing to see, but I’ve tugged at my leaves ordered from bloomlovers and most of them have rooted. One of the two Moon Gold leaves looks like the entire leaf might be rotting, no fuckin’ clue why, but the 50/50 perlite and vermiculite mix for starting leaves seems to be the way that works most reliably for me. That, and once they start growing roots, put them straight in the soil. I’m experimenting with setting them in the soil so that the roots are in the soil mix, and then the rest of the stem is just covered with that same perlite/vermiculite mix. I figure that might be easier for the plantlets to punch through.Â
Boreal got a touch of powdery mildew, and I spritzed it with lysol - pretty sure it’s going to make it, it seems to be growing roots - in any case it resists when I tug on the leaf.Â
Ancient Lace, Ever Precious, Fisher’s Leone, and Lady Diana all seem to be rooting nicely.Â
I tugged on Fall colours and it cam out easily, but when it did, it had two tiny roots starting, so it looks like it’s going to be fine and I put it back.
Livewire was looking nice, I hadn’t touched it in a while, but when I pulled on it, it came out easily and was a bit rotted on the tip, so I’ve sliced off the end and we’ll start again. Same deal with Lunar Eclipse.Â
The one I’m most excited about at this point is Morgan’s Chutney Popcorn, to be honest, and it’s partly because I just really like how *different* it is. But the other reason is the Morgan’s series of hybrids is hybridized by Carol Eros, who is based in Edmonton. So this one is a Canadian violet.Â
Morgan’s Chutney Popcorn is a semi-miniature, so, like Moon Gold, it comes with two leaves instead of just one, because they leaves are smaller, and there’s more risk they won’t take. But *both* of my Morgan’s Chutney Popcorn leaves appear to be rooted solidly, so I hope to have plants to trade with my fellow WAVS members.Â
