Here's little blood thing history for my fans (uh oh accidentally said fans I'm Larping again :( )
In the pilot for the series is a scene where Esten is trapped in the closet after blood thing flicks a switch, ( his name wasn't Esten back then but... shut up that's not the point I'm trying to say this as quickly as I can XD ) Esten bangs on the closet, then you hear a mechanical noise and he stops, then T'kara ( no she was not named T'kara yet either CX ) opens the door.
This is because the geography of the house in the pilot (no it was not a pilot either, it was intended to be the second episode to a first episode that never got made cx ) was Loosely based on/ a reference to / a tribute to what is called the "mystery door" in the commentaries for The Simpsons. The door underneath the staircase can either lead to one of two places in The Simpsons house. Either the basement or the closet. in the earlier version of Blood Thing the door underneath the staircase led to both of those locations as well, except a mechanical Contraption would actually shift the rooms in the house around. So if you wanted to go to the basement you would flick the switch one way. And if you wanted to go to the closet you would flip the switch the other way.
When redeveloping the show I took a Marie Kondo approach where I throw out any ideas that weren't directly causing me happiness lol. The mystery door went on the chopping block for a few reasons, one was that the characters were extremely poor and it was hard to believe that they could afford the electric bill for such a contraption. Another reason was that I wanted a spherical design for the house so things like closets against the wall were harder to plan for. The final reasons are that the first floor of the house is actually not on the ground, the houses are on stilts, and the only real solution I could think of was having a door leading to the basement being like some type of cason that housed a winding staircase that would make navigating around the living room fairly cumbersome. Anyway that's really long and I don't have time to proofread it or come up with a satisfying conclusion, bye XD
