Chard and Beets are the same species: Beta vulgaris. What we think of as their seeds are actually cork-like fruits usually containing several seeds. Attempting to separate them could damage them, so they are sold and planted as clusters. Here is the Blonde de Lyon Swiss Chard seedhead. Chard and Beet descended from a wild sea beet (Beta vulgaris subsp. maritima), which grows on the beaches of the Mediterranean, North Africa, and Southern Asia. #betavulgaris #betavulgarissubspmaritima #swisschardseeds #beetseeds #seabeet #seedsaving #seedkeeping #beetfruit #blondedelyon #roughwoodseedcollection (at Devon, Pennsylvania)
