HEARTSTOPPER SPOILERS REVIEW
I’ve yet to read this comic but I rewatched the show 3 times already.
Very glad that this representation exists and Netflix made it feel not so “forced” and very real at least when comparing it to some other gay titles.
I hear from the people who started with the comic then watched this that some scenes were “expected” so that’s nice that it’s staying true to the comic ?
Anywho s1 of HeartStopper gave more representation especially and maybe even specifically for those who are bi as it mostly focuses on Nick and Charlie’s relationship this season. Although it didn’t deep dive like other titles let’s say “Love Victor” this felt more smooth imo.
I’ll admit I was strung of everything Nick did through and through because yes he was confused but still was a decent human being to Charlie unlike Ben was. It wasn’t the fact that both Nick and Ben were at first scared to be public but it was that Ben not only didn’t find Charlie more than just a “hookup” or for this sake a “kiss and go”. But he gaslighted him at every corner, and with Nick however, it made Charlie feel like it was wrong. When being in a good environment feeling foreign since all he knew was toxic.
No, the show is NOT that deep at all ? But that’s where my brain went and again representation nonetheless and it was very sweet seeing the positive reminders whenever Nick and Charlie were together onscreen.
I’m excited to see where else it goes in the confirmed upcoming seasons and hoping we see more of Elle and get more trans representation.
