Some backstory:

Around 2021-2022 ish, I got into the BBC Sherlock fandom. This was the first fandom that I dedicatedly read fics for. However, at the time, I didn't understand how to use ao3, so I primarily used fic rec lists. And for this fandom, wherever I looked, it was always yours I came back to.

This blog gave me my favorite fic of all time, across any fandom, along with so many more ones that basically permanently altered my psyche.

This blog was basically a library for all the best fics, and it also helped foster my comfort with the AO3 systems.

Over time, understood AO3 more and more, and I slowly drifted away from the fandom (off to get my soul absorbed by Supernatural), and I eventually stopped looking at your blog altogether.

About a year ago, I got back on Tumblr, and didn't really think much about this blog.

Until today.

I've been looking for a fic that I read back when I was in my main Sherlock phase, hoping to download it. So, I head back to all the places where I might have found that fic, which were mostly fic rec lists.

I opened this blog for probably the first time in at least two years and holy shit it was like coming home. I used this blog basically every day for over a year, and I was finally back.

Because it had been so long, I thought you might not be active in the fandom any longer. But you aren't, and words cannot describe just how happy that makes me.

Hi Lovely!!!

Oh my gosh this is such a kind thing to see in my inbox after a stressful couple of days!! I ABSOLUTELY am always overwhelmed and floored whenever people refer to my blog as their primary "go-to" for recs and fandom content, regardless if it was years ago or yesterday!!! <3 Especially since I don't really... try? I just kind of do my own thing, cater to my neuroses, and this blog is the end result, LOL.

I don't read much Johnlock these days, but I THOROUGHLY enjoy still reccing fics when I can AND I love being sort of an interactive blog in a sense where everyone else kind of sends me things and I just collate everything into various posts. And I love that this community doesn't mind me reccing other-fandom fics when I feel the whim, and I love that regardless of if I'm gone for a couple days or a couple months, people still welcome me back and I STILL get wonderful messages like this.

I lead a fairly solitary life, so it makes me feel less alone knowing that I help people navigate an overwhelming fandom and find stuff they're looking for <3 I like being a "librarian" of sorts (not my words, but others have said I am such) and I take a lot of pride in having this blog that not only I enjoy but everyone else does too.

That all said, Lovely, welcome back, and I am happy that coming back here felt like coming home. My inbox is always open, and please enjoy your stay, regardless of how long it is 💜🖤

another adventure, but it was too windy for road bikes today. fun fact when it is windy and 34-36C as it was today? the wind does absolutely fuckall to cool anything down and makes wildfire risk extra spicy as well 🫠

midway up the prairie trail on the network i ride a bunch. the Flatirons, because they’re famous ofc, seen from a slight angle

the trail i rode up to get here, there’s more climbing too. this is the flattest MTB ride i can do in this region incidentally, only 315m D+ for a 2 hour / 30km ride.

yes it really is that hot in the shade lol. everything’s in metric; i dont use freedom units cos i work in the sciences for a global corp.

shot from the top of a big flowing descent that i like to rail when trails are empty like today. old cattle tank, Flatirons in the background. you can see these mountains from everywhere along the Front Range, they’re very distinctive.

plaque at the trailhead commemorating the Marshall wildfire. over 1000 homes burned. the most tragic part of this was that it happened so fast and during a workday that evac notices didn’t go out until everything was already on fire. we had to communicate via twitter and nextdoor then the mobile network partially died because the cell towers went down. homes burned to the basements. vehicles burned to just pools of metal slag. i was on holiday so i wound up out on a nearby road helping the owners of a horse ranch i ride past almost daily free all of their horses onto the road as the fire approached to get them out of the path, all while a massive wall of smoke and embers ran towards us on 150kph winds, which made it hard to even stand up. absolutely terrifying. thankfully their horses got out. yes only two (human) lives were lost but so, so many people lost their pets.

a little hard to see it’s so zoomed out but there’s lots of critters on that hillside. these trails are on county open space that is part of a working ranch, so there are big herds of black angus cattle everywhere and sometimes working cowhands on horseback. plus lots of cow pies on the trails.

more Flatirons views from the trailhead parking lot. they finally finished rebuilding it this spring, 5.5 years after it all burned down in the wildfire, although part of that involved digging out and extinguishing the coal seam fire that had been smoldering for over a century in this location, as it was thought to be a partial contributor to the Marshall wildfire.

i promise i’ll keep the blog up and won’t toss it into the void next time i need a little break dw haha

new stuff is coming soon, but i’m gonna try to take it slow bc it’s exam season until february. blog header etc will also change and not look generic soon hopefully
