the absolute final version of my type poster. And, to be frank, I’m quite proud of it.

blog post # 6
today was the final critique on our type posters but as usual, I found myself to be my harshest critic, ane went to completely redo my entire poster as soon as the critique was over.
though I did receive some great feedback
Blog post #5
the above images are examples of my type choices.
After scrolling through the previous student examples of type posters, I'm excited to illustrate a fun way of showing off these typefaces. I’m hoping to leave the audience with a feeling of technology and also slightly nostalgic for VCR.
Serif: EB Garamond solid and very legible Baskerville reminds me of sherlock homes, fun numbers Centaur rounded angles)
Sans Serif: Open Sans (like a more inclusive Arial) Anke (a better Futura and by better I mean more geometric) Futura ( oldy but goldy for looking Futura-istic) Orator (if house of gold by twenty-one pilots was a font) Overpass (if open sans was monospace and a little less cool)
Slab Serif: Rockwell (sexy rectangular serifs) Grover Slab (fat, friendly, and low contrast {sorry couldn't think of how to start that with an f}) Hendersons Slab (the modernize wild west)
Handwriting: Alphabetized Cassette (a cute-sy horror font) Permanent Marker (an essential to any punk’s Typekit) Signpainter (good variation for a pretty cursive)
Decorative & Display: SF Alien Encounter (good way to invoke vcr nostalgia, great for all your vaporwave aesthetic posts.) Moondance (fun and festival-y) Bebas (impact but better, my opinion is fact) SF Buttercup Lettering (Bebas but more variation)
type II week 5
this week I redesigned a walking tour flyer. I used Minion Pro and SF Buttercup bold/bold oblique. I tried to focus on a more minimalistic black and white, design using white space and an almost checkerboard pattern the most challenging part of this project was fitting all the information into a minimal design. the biggest takeaway was the idea of using different kind of grids

type 2 we recreated a page from a magazine
some questions:
- were some choices not what you would have done? if so, why? - what types of choices did the designer make in their layout that made you realize their efforts and choices? - what did you learn?
some answers:
i feel like there aren’t any changes i would have made. they did stick heavily on classics, like futura, bebas, bodoni, and baskerville. i learnt how to use a type gauge
this is my example of bad type, it isn’t really that bad, but the kerning on 9am and 11pm is awful soo.. i fixed it.
Overall this sign is readable, though the feel of the sign is a “keep out”, but the words are more “come on in.” This sign uses 2 fonts, Arial Bold and Helvetica Neue Condensed Bold.
my good type example was a piece from the Guerrilla Girls. it very readable, and gives off an informative vibe. It appeals to artist and art enthusiasts, letting them get the facts. They use Futura Pro Condensed Extra Black.
