I live in the bible belt. Moat people are around me are at least vaguely Christian, white, America die-hards that belive that this country is the best in the world. They believe our military is what grants our freedoms, and that without them, the terrorists win. They believe that there should be less strict gun laws because "guns are only dangerous in the wrong hands." But here's what I have to say... I am not a patriot. I do not believe that this is the greatest country in the world. With so many "advances" in society it seems like we're still stuck in the Jim Crowe south. Like seriously, how are we living in a country that claims to be on the forefront on the war for human rights when non-white children/people have to fear for their lives every time they take a step out of their front door? How do we lige in a country where two people can have literally the same education and work history, but the person with the "ethnic" sounding name is far less likely to be called in for an interview or hired for that matter? How is it that for every dollar a man makes, a woman make 70 cents? How is it that trans people can never feel comfortable being their true selves in the land that guarantees life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness? How come people/men of color are more likely to be incarcerated or serve a longer sentence for crimes that statistically white people are just as likely to commit? How can we continue calling ourselves the greatest nation in the world when we're constantly destroying the world with our pollution and wars? We are not the greatest country in the world. Just the most narcissistic.
