"I suppose the collection of such singularly unique objects for use as decoration must be a shared Stri-Londe familial trait?" Kanaya asks as Rose finds her house keys.

Rose tosses an amused expression over her shoulder as she pushes open her door and says, "I've seen your room; having three authentic and antique sewing machines spanning three unique eras qualifies you for this trait as well."

"Yes, but as my sewing machines are utilitarian and not just decoration I believe they must be considered a separate category."

Kanaya follows Rose into the house and is somewhat reluctantly surprised to see the theme continue through the foyer and what she can see of the other rooms. There is a good-sized bust of a grizzled old man with a pointed wizard's hat (which is an actual felt wizard's hat, and not part of the bust) on an oak desk in the corner, and the rug centered in the room is suspiciously sparkly, as if it could be magic-themed as well. Rose leads Kanaya further into the house, and Kanaya is treated to such decorative memorabilia as: large tapestries featuring white-bearded magical masters and unicorns over a starry night sky, more gaudily coloured wizard figurines lining shelves or tucked in corners, and a closet door askew and showing just a peek of thick, velvet cloth.

"Oh really, I suppose then, that you must pick up a completely useless collection immediately.  It appears that it's a requirement for members of the Stri-Londe family tree and as you've been an honorary member of this family for quite some time now you appear to be in violation."

The words settle somewhere in Kanaya's chest, under her sternum and tickling at the bottoms of her ribs.  It's mostly the tone Rose uses, teasing and warm.  It's almost exactly the same way Dave would say 'but youve got my back Kan dont you' without doubt or hesitation. 

"Well, I do seem to have a drawer full of small, brightly coloured, plastic frogs in my bedroom." 

"I think that'll do very nicely," Rose says and then coyly: "But you'll have to invite me over sometime so I can properly inspect and approve your alleged useless collection."

"Hmm, I rather suppose you would. Perhaps we can make an arrangement for a day later this week?  I seem to recall Dave will be away on a trip with the boys..." 

"Perfect."

Four days later, Rose and Kanaya replace all of Dave's pickled dead birds with jarred puppets, Rose approves Kanaya's Useless Plastic Frog collection, and Kanaya has Rose measured for a custom Wizarding Robe of Unequal Regard.
