Blacktober Day 2-Most RelatableĀ
bubbles from powerpuff girls for blacktober
You do realize that most of the characters that you drew for Blacktober were mostly(if not all) Asian, right? Black washing is bad, so donāt do it. Itās literally the same thing as whitewashing.
Bye.
Thereās a big difference, genius. For one thing, Whitewashing isnāt necessary when almost every character in animation looks like them. So right off the bat youāre comparing one race to another that arenāt standing on the same starting blocks. Sounding very loud and wrong to me. For white people, thereās no incessant desire within them to be seen on screen because they almost always are, so why would they need to whitewash? Itās been long established that there exists an infrastructural issue pertaining to lack of POC representation in the film industry. Blackwashing would not be an issue if that problem was addressed, right? An Issue creates Mitigation Strategiesā and well... This is one of them. Itās not about us not wanting the characters to be white. Itās about us desiring to feel that often overlooked comfort that other races have the luxury of feeling when they physically relate to a character. This feeling is often dismissed because other races are so used to it, but imagine the race that rarely ever gets to experience that.
How is it the same thing when white people see themselves every time they turn on the screen? How is it the same thing when my people have to witness a group of kids picking a character to ābeā on their favourite cartoon and then see the black kidsā faces fall because they canāt seem to choose any of them? They hear āno, that canāt be you!ā from the other kids because they donāt fit in.
12-year-old-me seeing Princess Tiana for the first time was NOT the same thing as one of my white gfs seeing Princess Elsa #45, you feel me?
The whitewashing that you speak of occurs in film or television. Its different on Twitter. In MMPās theres a hierarchical function at work that may be explained similar to the myth of reverse racism. This is social media. Itās not our fault that black culture = popular culture. blactober was created for a demographic of anime fans that just want to see/feel what it would be like to see ourselves in our favourite shows for once. To experience that shit that most take for granted. In other words, to allow black people a reason to be able to say, āhey, that looks like me!ā for a moment, and then return to the same anime in which the characters actually look nothing like me, lol. Weāre not emailing the fucking animators begging them to change the actual anime or canon script, weāre still supporting and watching, but for one month out of the year artists that look nothing like the canon characters they draw EVERYDAY said what the hell & chose to use a shade that represented themselves. that shouldnāt be an issue. There is fanon representation changing anime characters to being whole ass pedofiles but youāre over here? Like I said, bye.
Black people did this FUBU on Black Twitter specifically. The artists are not pushing this on anyone nor are they asking for yours or anyoneās damn approval on the matter, so perhaps.... mind your fucking business next time.
