How To Take Pictures of Plants With A Black Background
Taking pictures of inanimate objects with a black background is easier said than done. However, a little practice and an eye for balance will help you take pictures of plants in a dramatic dark background. Here are three methods you can use to get great looking pictures of plants in a dark setting.
The Sun and Shadows
This method does not require you to use a lot of equipment. Typically, you will only need the brightest spot for the plant in front of the darkest spot in the background. The only drawback is that you will have to pick the plants and move them just to get the right shade.
Black Felt
Unlike other types of cloth, felt does not reflect as much light which will give you a solid black background. When shooting a plant, you can simply put the black felt behind it. However, you must make sure that the cloth is as flat as much as possible. You can make use of a book or board to get to achieve the effect. It is important to remember to avoid picking the plant and placing it directly on the felt. The picture will appear flat and lifeless if you do that.
Cylinder
You can make use of a dark cylindrical object like the bucket to create an artificial black background. Usually, cylinders create a very dark center. You can choose to place the plant directly in front or a bit into the cylinder itself.
