I have a theory. A big one. I think we will be able to piece together Horse’s prophecy.
“The Patriarch, in mastering Luna, ends hamstrung.”
Now, this line we all thought was D, or perhaps door. But! Have we considered an unlikely suspect? REMOLD BLACKLAW!!!
So, what makes me suspect this? One little line in CH6:
(After Brockham insists going with D into the umbra, despite Remold’s refusal)
Remold: “My boy… becomes a man…”
Now this set alarm bells off for me. Because of one of the least explained episodes of the series: the blender adventure. Mainly, this line.
“The world of fathers turns to the world of sons.”
We woo we woo hello??? So. I think Remold is much more important than we think he is, and he’s already the Patriarch of the Blacklaw family. That’s what can be taken from the Blue Man. Moreover.
“In mastering Luna.” We do have a character who quite famously “Mastered,” Luna. Luna, you see, is the Garou word for not just the moon, but its spirit, which the Wolves hold a deep connection to. Without getting too into details of WTA and its deeper lore, Kronik Fatigue did just this.
I think we’re going to see Remold do something akin—likely not exactly what Kronik did—and in the attempt, do something terrible, namely to himself.
“He will wish death upon his flesh... but no mercy shall be given, for none he hath gave.”
This line tells us something more important than just the outcome of “Mastering Luna,” namely that the Patriarch CANNOT be Big-D! D is definitively merciful. Look at how he deals with Kevin, or how he’s willing to help the ghoul in the chapter house, if they reveal themselves.
Now, some have come to think this means Door. He is a Patriarch (father) and shows effectively no mercy. They combine this bit with the first portion:
“Thine Faeder, laid bare... desiccated on the rocks, by thy hand... The Abbot, will know.”
To mean that Door will get killed, and then Embraced. It’s a dramatic theory, but I don’t think it holds water. For one, it’s a bit odd to have two of four bits dedicated to one guy. We know they’re separate because not only does the repeated line, “The Abbot, will know.” separate them, but so does A WHOLE UNCONNECTED LINE OF THE PROPHECY!
"Of Two, One Falls... One Rises. Damnation. The third eye opens. His Suet will feed and warm her gullet. The Abbot, will know."
While I have mixed opinions of what this could mean, and my own crack theory (which I may detail on another post), I feel certain in claiming it’s not about door.
Finally, I think it’s worth acknowledging that “The Abbot Will Know,” is most probably referring to Bénédicté. She’s really the only A-lister who’s a priest of any kind. If Door dies, Bénédicté will probably be there; we also know the two have a decent amount in common. If the second bit is what I think it is, I think Bénédicté may well be involved in one if not both events spoken of by Horse. Of course, if I’m right and Remold “Masters Luna,” I’d be shocked if she isn’t involved even a little.
