SO CHECK IT OUT: I stumbled across this article/video/lecture that really put into perspective the effect social consciousness has on the Black community /Black Deaf Community, or any marginalized community for that matter. Joseph Hill gets into the nitty gritty about Black ASL and how those within the group that use it have to practically code switch between Black ASL and plain ASL. He describes real examples from people in various situations as well as discusses the Deaf community statistics (how the high percentages of white interpreters have an effect on the overall interpretation in situations that involves those who are a part of a marginalized group) Definitely a good read SO CHECK IT OUT!
