This is a study from the University of Sydney which reviews three papers concerning the effect on/alterations of the dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin systems after the administration of methylone and mephedrone. The other studies included also examine addiction and rates of self-administration. You can find the paper here. I have included notes from my psychopharmacology class/capstone project below. Methyloneand Mephedrones' long-term cognitive and neurochemical effects

Advent of research chemicalanalogues – market for controlled substance derivatives

-  Risein 1980s with fentanyl analogues, slight alteration of moieties, develop novel drugs

-  Evade drug laws, new industry, labs primarily in Europe/china (countries with lax drug laws)

- Rise of 4-MMC/methylone (beta-ketone MDMA and Methcathinone w/ methyl at 4’ position)

4-MMC first synthesized in 1929, not much attention until late 2000s, methcathinone found in khat or mirra plants, usually chewed in quids

-  Sold as plant food or bath salts, increase in hospital admissions and negative side effects

o   Agitation, violence, psychosis, tachycardia, hyperthermia, hypertension, seizures

o   IV/insufflation administration results in skin erosion, infection, blisters, abscesses, gangrene, blood clots, holes

o   MMC is entactogenic and psychedelic also, not pure stimulant

o   Synthesis impurities may have manganese contamination

§  Possibly leads to Parkinson’s, reported symptoms in IV users

-  Possibly cognitive impairment, recall impairment, depression, elevated schizotypy scores

o   Increase in confidence, dizziness, impaired concentration and memory

-  Compulsive redosing, drug supplies quickly gone, high rates of repeated self-administration

Effects – works similar to amphetamine, effects DA, 5-HT, NE systems through modulation and reuptake inhibition. Slows NT metabolism by inhibition of MAO-B/A

First study uses c-Fos immunohistochem to show brain activation by MMC

-  Protein expressed in neurons when strongly activated, active in 30 mins

2nd study looked at potential for neurotoxicity, used autoradiographic tracking of TSPO (translocator protein) to examine inflammatory response. HPLC to look at DA and 5-HT systemic effects

-  Study anxiety, social behavior, memory after administration

3rd study examined self-administration patterns and potential for addiction, compare to methamp

-  Autoradiographic techniques and dose-response curves for fixed and progressive reward schedule. Investigate changes in DA/5-HT transporters, TSPO inflammation marker

Alteration of NT systems in rats – both MMC and meth caused hyperactivity

-  Striatal DA levels increased, 5-HT levels decreased. Reduced DA metabolism, increase in 5-HT metabolism

-  Autoradiographic analysis showed no neuroinflammation

-  Repeated high dose administration produced impaired novel object recognition

-  No residual changes in 5-HT/DA tissue levels 7 weeks after treatment

-  Acute but no sustained changes in DA/5-HT tissue concentration

Addiction – intravenous administration to male Sprague-Dawley rats, trained to nose poke

-  Fixed and progressive ratio schedule over 3 weeks. Vigorous self-administration.

-  Slower weight gain vs. control. Decreased striatal 5-HIAA (5-hydroxyindolacetic acid) concentrations

It depends on the color Cus they do have a matte line but I think all the packaging is the same regardless

yeah that is true, i was talking about the matte lip tars but they do make different finishes, i havent tried the stained gloss or metallic formulas though, so its hard to say how they look.

certain ones take longer to dry so ppl say that mine is pretty shiny for a long time before drying to a matte finish
