I’m sorry that I wasn’t able to find you at the World Cup, as you can imagine my hands were pretty tied with all the injuries. I didn’t leave the hospital for days! Anyway... I’ve been keeping my eye out and no one else seems to have seen an insanely tall author in the ward, so I can only hope that this means you’ve made it home safely. I apologize I haven’t had the time to check for myself, but I hope you’ll write back soon -- if only to ease my mind a little more. Things have been... well, you know how they’ve been. Most days it feels like I’m stuck in a nightmare and can’t wake up... I really wish I could just wake up.

It makes me uneasy knowing how many of us Weasley assholes there are out there while this is all going on. You know I’m shite with numbers, but statistically speaking the likelihood of all of us making it out of this unscathed is pretty damn small. Just... please don’t do anything stupid. I know that’s kind of your thing, but worrying about my baby brother being discovered as another corpse among the wreckage is something I really can’t handle right now. 

I’m losing my fucking mind out here and I just need to know you’re okay and it’s going to stay that way. Please. I’m stuck in Hogwarts for now, but I’ll come nag you as soon as I can.

I thought a lot about the right or wrong way to say this, but... I think you would prefer the most straightforward approach. Ethan, I’m sorry. I’m so sorry about Alfie, I know how much he meant to you. I’m sorry I haven’t been around to say this myself, as I’ve hardly had any time to write, much less leave the hospital. I wish there was something I could do. I wish I could be with you instead of surrounded by death and sadness. I wish none of this bloody mess had happened in the first place...

But wishing and apologizing can’t fix or change anything, I know that. All I have left is to do everything that I can to make sure this death count doesn’t get any higher. I hate that this is what they’ve turned us into. Muggles, halfbloods, supporters -- innocent people -- they’ve just let us become another number to write down in a history book. We’re more than that. Alfie was more than that... much more. He deserves so much better than that, though I’m positive that you will do more than enough by him. If you need anything at all, please don’t hesitate to let me know. I’ll be thinking about you, I hope you’ll take some time to rest as well. One of us certainly has to.
