The post traumatic stress they’ve all been subjected to wasn’t unheard of, but it was suppressed to the point where everyone almost preferred to act like they were fine. Some sick world they lived in, that required humans like them to act as though they were void of emotion. Sasuke would argue that it was less of an act on his part, now.
“You need to keep your eyes open.” Figuratively speaking, of course. “It’s the only way we can pretend we’re actually okay.” It isn’t a fix, but it’s a fake it until you make it situation. Sasuke’s still trying his best to fake it. Although to be fair, part of his horrors left with the war, only replaced with memory. Karin’s was standing right before her.
Sasuke was a constant reminder of what happened to her, what he did to her, betrayal and pain emitted onto her. There are times when he forgets it happened, but he knows she probably wont. He’s trying to be a better person, but at the same time erasing his past from memory does not erase his sins.

Whenever I listen to music now, there will be a random song that comes on and I think of modern!Sasuke and @bitecureds Karin. Fact: Sasuke digs his heels in when it comes to hanging out with Karin because on the rare occasions she gets him to go out, he ends up tipsy enough to do shit like Karaoke. Spoiler alert: he and Karin are fucking great at it.
