Wynonna Earp 2X09 (Spoilers ahead)
I loved this episode. Straight (obvs not) and to the point. Some people are mad about the fact that Waves kissed Rosita. And I get that. The âbisexuals are cheatersâ trope is fucked up, but I truly believe that that scene wasnât shot b/c thatâs âthe only way to make an LGBT storyline dramatic/interestingâ The point, I believe, was to show that Waverly is a flawed human being. Sheâs always (expect Gooverly parts) in control, so composed and always perky.Â
CHEATING IS NOT JUSTIFIABLE, but she was hurting. Nicole did a fucked up thing, and Waves wanted to feel something nice after all that shit. The curse, Bobo, Willa, Nicoleâs choice...all that boiled down to her doing a stupid, poor thing. You can see that even before she kissed Rosita; she knew that sheâd been a bit harsh on Nicole cause she regretted sending that nasty text.Â
Does the scene add to the bisexual/cheater trope? Yes. B/c as far as we know Waverly is bisexual and she did in fact cheat, but this isnât to be taken as she cheated because sheâs bisexual, NO. She kissed her b/c she felt all messed up. Sheâs human. And while I understand the LGBT+ communityâs anger over this. Please see the whole picture, explain the picture to others who feel the same way, and let them see what, in my opinion, was Emilyâs and the writersâ intention: We all make mistakes.Â
Just as we preach, âDonât write a queer character into the show just to have a queer character; write them as any other character.â We have to accept that these characters are going to fuck up. THEYâRE HUMAN!Â
And cheating isnât the only storyline in here. WayHaught/Nicole/Waverlyâs storyline has so much more. The scene about asking for consent; Nicole sometimes feeling like an outsider w/ the Earps; Waveâs genetic history; Waves work wit the team; Nedley asking Nicole to be sheriff later on; Nicole and Wynonnaâs relationship...WayHaught has some issues, but in order to portray them as a real couple, theyâre gonna screw up. As Dominique said, what our community needs is to be portrayed truthfully, and while that doesnât exclusively mean cheating, it means going through massive fights and doubting your relationship. The Rosita kiss wasnât a trademark for LGBT+ relationships and thatâs âHOW WE ALL FUCK UPâ. Itâs an example that the writers used to showcase failure and regret. Could they have used something else? Sure, idk what at the moment cause Iâm no writer, but letâs just accept this. We can create a dialogue about it, tell  the team our thoughts and share our concerns.
PLEASE DO NOT BASH AND DISRESPECT THE WYNONNA EARP TEAM AND THE ACTORS. Theyâve given us so much and treat us wonderfully, we owe them at least that. Donât overstep, be kind, understand that people donât always understand or see everything and build from that. Be #Earpers.
