Although this trip to A New Chapter had become a part of her daily routine, her stride was filled with unusual trepidation. The knuckles of her dainty hands were chalk white as she gripped onto the larger-than-usual bento container. That morning, she had felt good about her decision. It served as her motivation in the early hours of the morning as she zoomed around the kitchen like a stressed-out worker bee. Now that the time to actually go ahead and commit to her decision was here, anxiety filled her to the bone. Ever since she had heard from his roommate about his upcoming birthday, the idea of making a special birthday meal had not left her mind. It was exactly the sort of thing she would want for her own birthday. Still, she did not want to come across as too much and make the skittish male view her differently. Over the past month that they had known each other, she had grown to value his presence in her life, even though their relationship was mostly transactional. She spoke to him briefly whenever she dropped off his lunch and then attempted to make conversation sometimes whenever she came over to visit the bunny he was looking after for her. Sometimes, she wanted to ask more about him, grow their friendship more, but the threat of rejection loomed heavily over her. It would be like the Dai-chan situation all over again; somehow both not as bad and worse at the same time.

The other issue was that the girl was helpless even in the face of moderate kindness. People gave her an inch and she poured endless sunlight into it without question. It was simply who she was. Hoseok was nice to her; quiet and shy, sure, but a perfect gentleman all the same. So, it was difficult to reign herself in from putting a little more effort into his lunches each time in an attempt to make him happy. They were small gestures anyway. This, on the other hand. This might be excessive. She pushed her way into the shop, using her shoulder to nudge the door open enough to let herself in, and bounced on her heels briefly for a moment as her eyes sought him out throughout the room. They finally landed on the lanky figure tucked away between some of the book shelves. She dragged her feet as she made her way over. “Hey!” She chirped when she was finally there. “Um, I have your lunch.” Her gaze dropped to the box she was holding onto for dear life and she kept it there. “Um. If it’s okay, do you wanna go to lunch together? I - It’s kind of a surprise. I can go like, after you see.”

It was just another day in Riverdale. Nothing special in the mind of Britney. Except that tomorrow would be her birthday. Her 18th birthday to be exact. And she hadnt told anyone.

Of course Jughead knew. But he was the only one. And she hadn't told Sweet Pea when her birthday was. Even though they had been dating for a little over a month.

Britney hummed as she showed up to the club where all the Serpents hung out. She walked in, her serpent jacket on, and smiled when she saw her boyfriend playing pool with Fangs.

She walked up to the bar and ordered a drink, smiling as she saw Jughead. "Hey. Fancy seeing you here. Without your little hip attachment." She said, referring to Betty.

It was Halloween - the day had arrived pretty fast this year. Dean wasn’t a big fan of that day, it could be confusing to see humans dressed up at monsters walking down the street, never being sure if that was a real human or a monster who thought it was fun to be out in the open. This year was different. He knew that it was Lucien’s birthday. What do you do on such a day, knowing it wasn’t just a random person but at the same time, how the fuck do you surprise a Necromancer? Buying things was not really a good plan, he could get himself anything he wanted, so after some thinking, he decided that the special moments and doing something completely DIFFERENT was the actual best idea ever. And so Dean Winchester spent an afternoon in a small shop going through a variety of Halloween costumes. After a while, he decided to go for a darker version of a Batman outfit (that included black tight leather pants), a cape, shirt, and of course the mask. BATMAN! The real issue was what could he get Lucien? He didn’t know him that well, if he got it wrong – but hell. Why not get a few costumes and let him pick? Yes. And so it was Halloween, the streets were already busy with kids and also adults, as he stopped in front of Lucien’s house, knocking. Dean Winchester was dressed as Batman already, feeling absolutely confident in that costume. In his hand was a larger bag with different things. One costume was a devil costume, then there was a Robin costume (Batman and Robin!! But he didn’t want to push him to do that one), and then there was a mummy costume, which was a little bit of a fun thing - 

Going out like that was new for Dean too, but this year? He wanted it to be different and maybe give Lucien a special day too, away from anything too serious, away from life as it was.  This was Dean’s way, there were a few little other things he had planned - but everything at its own time.

Rukia worked through her lunch, making sure she was completely caught up a bit earlier than usual. With a quick wave to Kiyone and Sentaro, she made her way out of the squad 13 offices, being very conscientious of the time. It was important that she be home earlier than Renji and she still had to pick up the item in question.

She couldn’t help but glance at the clock every few minutes, stirring the curry sauce on the stove and listening for the rice cooker to beep. The mixture on the stove smelled just as Rukia remembered from the few times she had made it at Ichigo’s house. The potatoes, mushrooms, carrots, onions, and chuck roast simmered lightly as she turned down the heat. She tasted the broth, nodding to herself that it was adequate. The cucumber salad was already prepped and on the table along with a small arrangement of flowers - red camellias surrounded by pale violet/blue forget-me-nots, a single red rose in the center surrounded by delicate white baby’s breath. Come to think of it, Rukia wasn’t entirely sure Renji knew what each flower meant but as long as he enjoyed the arrangement, that’s what mattered. The lessons she had learned in the Kuchiki household paid off tremendously when she was putting everything together. 

The rice cooker beeped, indicating the rice was ready and the curry appeared to be just the right thickness as well. Rukia turned off the heat, removing her apron and smoothing out the edges of the soft yukata she wore underneath. It somewhat resembled the one she’d worn as a child although with a more detailed embroidered violet pattern and this one made of silk instead of lesser material. Violet eyes watched the door as she set down a bottle of sake and two serving cups in addition to the usual tea that accompanied their dinner. It was a special occasion after all.

“Hurry up, baka...” Rukia muttered under her breath, tapping her foot impatiently.
