I just did a little searching around and found that there’s very few carpet cleaners people trust around their birds.

Although people were saying they had great success using steam cleaners. There’s usually a part you put chemicals into and bird owners put a small amount of white vinegar mixed with water into that part instead, or just water. It would depend on which steam cleaner you had. 

I also found there’s lots of natural organic carpet cleaners you can make yourself with all natural ingredients. Do a search for “Organic carpet cleaners” and you will get results with formulas that use no harmful products for both spot cleaning and deodorizers like these I found:

Just to be sure, you can still move your birds/pets to a safe place like a friends house or someone you trust in a carry cage for the day. Or even just anywhere else in or outside the house that is well ventilated, safe and away from where the cleaning is happening. Using an air purifier can also really help if you think there still might be anything in the air you don’t trust. We have one and it works very well for our bird room.

The best kind would be any with no teflon in them. Teflon is the part of non-stick cookware that creates fumes that are poisonous, even to humans. We just aren't killed by it so quickly like birds are. It can cause the elderly and young children to get sick... so it's best to avoid teflon unless they find a way to stop it from leeching into the air and into food.

Remember to do your research on what sort of bird you are looking for and its needs. Avoid getting a bird from a pet shop and make sure to go to a breeder with a good reputation or even better, look at adopting one from a bird rescue center. : ) 

It's best to have everything already set up before you bring you new bird home with you. Make sure the cage is set up away from the kitchen and other rooms if you have self cleaning products or non-stick cookware as that will poison your bird. Any fumes or aerosols will also unfortunately kill your bird so avoid: anything that sprays, scented candles, cleaners etc.

Let them settle in a quiet place away from any loud noises and fuss until they are used to the new sights, smells and noise, to limit stress as this is a very stressful time for them.

As for food, birds on an all seed diet will definitely have their life cut in half so it's best to use a good quality pellet (more expensive but it's worth it) and also fruits and veggies. Making sure to avoid any that are harmful to birds, which you can find all over the net if you search it.

Other than that, spending time with your bird and keeping it busy with natural foraging when you aren't around is a good idea so your bird doesn't get bored and start screeching all the time for attention.

Take it slow, there is no rush. : ) Do your research and make sure you are definitely ready to bring home your new feathered friend and everything should be fine.
