I absolutely love your interpretation on how Flapjack talks. It’s not perfect English, but you can still understand what he’s saying. It feels more realistic somehow. Like how pets would speak if they knew English. I really like it. I wonder if each Palisman would have their own unique speech pattern.
I've had a lot of thoughts about how palismen would talk to their people, but I think it would mainly be like, they impress feelings into your head. And the stronger the bond with you is, the clearer you would understand them.
If your palisman is happy, and they want you to know, they'll share the feeling as an extra burst of joy for you to experience. Flapjack's happiness is warm and fluttery, maybe Ghost's is the impression of a purr, Clover's like a little buzz in your ear, etc. And this would apply to other feelings as well, with each palisman expressing theirs differently. Maybe as Luz's palisman egg starts getting closer to hatching, their feelings become more clear and Luz starts to pick up on them more. Right now, when she holds the egg, there is a faint feeling of warmth and safety. They already know she loves them, and they love her back.
And when they really want you to know something, words and important images come through. Maybe they're not exactly talking? But your brain would translate it as words, especially if the palisman has something very specific to say!
Maybe the longer a palisman has been around, the more they can use "word speech" to communicate. Like, the Bat Queen has been alive for a lot longer than any of the other palismen we've seen, and she can communicate with anyone out-loud, not just confined to a voice in your head (though I don't doubt that she could do that too). Flapjack has been around for three hundred years or so, and I feel like he can form more clear words, and he probably picked up on some of Bat Queen's speaking patterns, though he can't speak aloud.
Anyways!! This is a bunch of jumbled thoughts that have been rattling around in my head, and I've just been trying to sort them! Long story short, I love palismen very much ;u;
