Self-care
I am learning that self-care is incredibly important. I am learning that I need to take “me time” and that there is nothing wrong with that. As a wife and a mother of two, it is even more important to take time for myself. And even one step further, as someone with Bipolar Disorder, it is absolutely essential. Lately I haven’t been taking care of myself. I had stopped my medication a few years ago, I never took time to just relax by taking a bath, reading a good book with a cup of tea, or just sitting out in the sun. I never took time to unwind and recharge. My husband would always try to tell me that I should go do something, but I just never really had the energy or desire to do anything. Having started my medication again, I feel much less depressed, much more energized, and I am seeing the beauty in life again. And through learning more about Bipolar Disorder and how to manage it, I am learning that self-care is vital to my mental wellbeing. When you take time to do things for yourself such as getting your nails done, getting your hair done, taking a long bath, reading a book, etc., you are investing in your happiness and eliminating stress. I am learning that it is OKAY to prioritize yourself. It is ok to give yourself a little break. And I am learning to just breathe and take things one day at a time. Hubby was right, just like he usually is- haha. But shh, don’t tell him I said that.
