Ok so Wing... Wing is not a spiritual mentor. He's a loner and a radical of the first water and extremely difficult to get along with. It's abundantly clear he has a fully formed theory of life that he has developed essentially in isolation. He does not seem remotely qualified to be a mentor, yet he spontaneously chooses to be one to Drift. I need more people to acknowledge how peculiar this is. Wing does not set Drift "straight," but functions as another of the charismatic nodes off whom Drift glances, pinball-like, gaining velocity and strangeness.

There are definitely fans/writers out there who Get Him and I have been so lucky to find them, but even in my *checks notes* brief 7 months in Silm fandom I've sometimes seen him turned into way more of a saint than he is. He is SO petty and ambitious and a little insane and we should let him be!!

I say “not enough screentime” purely for blorbo appreciation reasons, not for narrative ones; Tolkien accomplished exactly what he needed to with the pagetime he had and there isn't really anything I'd want done differently in canon. I'd take one million more insights into him, but (clearly) what we do have is enough to extrapolate and there's a lot more story to get to.
