We had an incredibly peaceful and much needed sojourn at @deetjensbigsurinn for my birthday this past week. This is a place we drove by years ago along the oh so popular coastal Highway 1 (PCH) and made a pact to stay one day. It exceeded all expectations. I’ll be posting images of our stay for the next few days. Ironically, the first photo I’m posting is what’s left of the old Stokes building on the Deetjen property, which was damaged in a storm in 2017 and hasn’t been renovated yet. But it still sits beautifully in the canyon, like a little fairytale cabin. The Deetjen property nestles within Castro Canyon in Big Sur, California. The buildings were built by Helmuth Deetjen with his homeland’s traditional Norwegian techniques. Along with his wife Helen, they created this magical refuge amongst the redwoods in the late 1930s, which is now on the U.S’s National Register of Historic Places. // #BigSur #California #Deetjens #BigSurInn #deetjensbigsurinn #nationalregisterofhistoricplaces #america #highway1 #pch (at Deetjen's Big Sur Inn) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bs586YBlxbj/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=j854vnet8ddw
