I think Nina hit harder in 03 because you get the feeling that Ed always suspected it. Right from the off you knew he knew something was wrong but he couldn't put his finger on it, then when he did finally reach the point of "screw it I'd rather be wrong than not act" he was too late anyway. That also gives a reason for him being so impulsive when he sees people in trouble - he doesn't want to be too late ever again, but you don't really get that same sense of urgency from B'hood.
oof yes. in fmab it was kind of like “oh no! nina! how could this have happened!” and in 03 it was like ed was just too late to stop it? i generally find the whole scene in 03 more heart wrenching too, mayb because nina was in more episodes and ed was like..12….owchie
