Oh Silas. You cute little critter. This photo was taken while Cadence and Silas were still in hospital. I stayed 5 out of 6 nights with them there, taking one night off to catch up on some sleep at home while Cadence’s mum filled in for me. We only just got home yesterday afternoon. Why did they have to spend so long in hospital? Well fuck, that depends which midwife you ask. We were told so many different things by different people during our stay. Some of the reasons included his tongue-tie, his jaundice, his supposed panting which they determined was because he had an infection (he didn’t), his concerning weight-loss, Cadence’s healing process, complications with her bladder, her fluid retention and MORE. The midwives worked in shifts so we had a different midwife almost every day and every night. Some of them were lovely and would be helpful in providing information on working on easing his jaundice and feeding problems (due to his tongue-tie). But some of them were fucking awful. This one midwife named Linda (RPA hospital if you’re reading this - fire her ass please thanks) was brutal. She was blunt and gave us little to no information and demanded we do things with no questions. Literally she would cut us off abruptly with “NO QUESTIONS. Just listen.” She would barge into the room in the middle of night making as much noise as she possibly could, while we were desperately trying to keep it nice, dark and quiet and would demand we turn on the lights by saying “I NEED LIGHT”. If Silas was asleep he’d instantly start fussing or crying and then she’d blame it on us not having enough “skin-to-skin” time with him. Like really? Bitch you barged your ass in slamming every surface you could, turning on every light and you’re going to tell us it’s because we aren’t all naked together? Nahhhh. On a brighter note, we did have one angel of a midwife named Keren. Along with her adorable French accent and salt and pepper curly hair she was everything a midwife should be. Informative, caring and so unbelievably sweet. She went above and beyond to make sure we understood everything and did everything in her power to help Cadence and Silas heal up quickly so that we could go home. And when she did come in and give us the O.K. to go home, teary eyed and emotional she added “Okay, good luck and trust your instincts!”. (RPA hospital if you’re reading, give this lady a raise). So now we’re home. Finally. As a family. Cadence and I are adjusting to having an addition to our household and in turn an additional endless list of things to do. We haven’t really stopped. But between feeds and nappy changes we still manage to steal kisses and a few hugs. Silas is definitely on the receiving end of most of the kisses at this stage though. Look at him.. who wouldn’t want to kiss that stupidly adorable face? I smell like breast milk and am sporting bags under my eyes from sleep deprivation but I’m happy and so excited to finally have my babies home. Here we go I guess. ALSO NOBODY TOLD ME HOW HARD IT IS TO CLEAN SHIT OUT OF WRINKLY BABY BALLS. THANKS FOR THAT WORLD.
