Better Than Words: Top five fave fics?

I have 83 fics bookmarked as ‘fave’, so this would be literally impossible to do. These five are my faves but they are not my only faves. I picked five landmark fics that had a big impact on me in some way. Also, I only started my faves tag in 2013 so RIP to any faves that came out in 2012. In no particular order:

1. Yours Faithfully by Threeturn - I still remember where I was when I read this for the first time, seriously. This was way way way before I knew Val personally, back in big bang round 1, in a time before time. My comment on the fic from last year since I didn’t leave one back in 2013 (shame on me): 

“val i'm like 1000% sure i've already commented on this fic and talked to you about how much i love it like a billion times, BUT i just finished another re-read (i think that brings my total count up to like..10+ since it came out) and i had to say AGAIN how much i love this. this was the first fic i ever read from you, and the first fic in the fandom that really made me LAUGH in addition to being so sweet and fun and cute. [...] this fic broadened my horizons SO MUCH and also gave me impossibly high standards. because after reading this, i wanted EVERY SINGLE FIC to be this funny and interesting and hot and cute and have such an awesome premise and creative execution!! and even now, like two and a half years after reading it for the first time, it's STILL one of my absolute favorites and i'll probably re-read it many, many more times. i'm so glad we're friends and i'm so glad you wrote this and i'm so glad that in my head harry, louis, liam, and zayn are having intergalactic anti-gravity sex in niall until the end of time. <3″ 

2. Accio My Heart by Waspabi - This is probably one of the most charming pieces of literature I’ve ever read, and it also introduced me to one of my close pals Kelly! By which I mean I loved this fic so much I just kept bothering her about it until we became friends and here we are like three years later lol! AMH has so much charm and wit and CUTENESS and I LOVE SO MUCH how kelly writes the HP universe in her fics. I just remember laughing hysterically at this fic that summer, every time a new chapter came out, reading it was the first thing I wanted to do. I think I live tweeted the new chapters actually, that is how dedicated I was. My first comment on the fic, from Ch. 4:

“THIS IS MAYBE MY FAVORITE FIC I'VE EVER READ???? OH MY GOD IT'S SO STUNNINGLY HILARIOUS AND YOUR CHARACTERIZATION IS PERFECT AND THIS IS SO CUTE AND FUNNY I AM SO IN LOVE!!!!!!!!!! i saw this prompt when it was first going around and i wanted it so badly, and i'm just so incredibly thrilled that not only did someone write it, but it's being written better than i could ever have imagined or hoped for. i can't wait for the rest!”

3. People Throw Rocks at Things That Shine by flyingthesky, spibsy - This fic was definitely my first foray into crack concepts in fic, and one of the best examples of ‘it sounds ridiculous but this tentacle porn changed me as a person’ possibly to exist on earth. This is ostensibly a fic about Harry’s tentacle genitalia, but it’s really about found family, love, and acceptance. An excerpt from my fic comment: 

“I NEVER THOUGHT TENTACLES AND DESSERT COMEPLAY WOULD GIVE ME SO MANY WARM FUZZY FEELINGS WOW”

4. The Miseducation of Harry Styles by junkshop_disco - TALK ABOUT AN OG, this is gryles otp required reading. I believe this was the first real gryles fic? That’s my memory anyway. It was originally posted on LJ, then moved to AO3 in 2013 I think, but this was the fic that made me ship nick and harry way back at the inception of their friendship. If you haven’t read it, you need to. My comment from 2014:

“I just read this for the hundredth time and realized I'd never left a comment or anything to tell you that this is still the cutest and funniest and most heart-warming fic in the universe and I think you're a genius.”

5. I literally can’t chose between four fics, so whatever I’m posting all of them collectively as the last fave fic 

Sometimes Truth is Stranger Than Fiction by dramaturgicallycorrect - I love this movie, but I think I love this AU even more. 

Won't Get To Space Because I Haven't Got a Rocket by sunsetmog - I think this was one of the first fics I read from a Liam POV, and it’s so achingly lonely and perfect, the experience of reading this is like hurt/comfort fic for my soul.

parallel on the other side by brojan - don’t even fucking get me started. CRY A LOT. i have only been able to read this once because of the devastating nature of this fic but trust me i have never forgotten it

Even When We Fight by Threeturn - the lirry debate au that made me ship lirry. Idk how many of you have been here long enough to remember, but actually I used to hate lirry as a pairing and I refused to read it!!!! Seriously it seems so bizarre to me now as a giant lirry shipper that they could have ever been my notp, but they totally were, until I read this.
