In 1977, the theater was transformed into a nightclub called Studio 54 by Steve Rubell and Ian Schrager, with Jack Dushey as a financial backer. They operated the company as Broadway Catering Corp. It took only six weeks to transform the theater into a nightclub and cost $400,000 before its grand opening on April 26. Rubell and Schrager hired Scott Bromley as architect, Ron Doud as interior designer and Brian Thompson as lighting designer. Jules Fisher and Paul Marantz, two well-known lighting designers, created the dance floor environment and created moveable theatrical sets and lights using the copious existing TV lighting circuits and fly system, which allowed for a dynamic, constantly-changing, environment. Where formerly all clubs had been very dark, at Studio 54 the crowd could be lit brightly. The club was also known for its extravagance that often made headline news. Event planner Robert Isabell had four tons of glitter dumped in a four-inch layer on the floor of Studio 54 for a New Year's Eve party, which owner Ian Schrager described as like "standing on stardust" and left glitter that could be found months later in their clothing and homes. Or when, on her birthday, Bianca Jagger rode in on a white horse led by a naked man which has become one of the most famous parts of the Studio 54 legends.

Political activism

 Killer Style

Bianca Jagger, a citizen of both Britain and Nicaragua, was born in 1945. In her early life she received a scholarship to study political science in Paris. she was said to have been influenced heavily by eastern philosophy and Ghandi. In the early 70′s and 80′s, she was known as a heavy party-goer, and became closely associated with New York’s legendary Studio 54. In the early 70′s she married musician Mick Jagger, with whom she had a daughter, however they divorced on the grounds of his adultery with model Jerry Hall seven years later. She was also heavily associated with her constant charity work, as well as her close friendship with artist Andy Warhol. 

Jagger has founded the Bianca Jagger Human Rights Foundation,  opposed the death penalty and defended the rights of women an indigenous people in Latin America, spoke up for victims of the conflicts in Bosnia and Serbia, and has collaborated with many organisations including Amnesty International. She has also visited Nicaragua many times, particularly in times of desperation, such as following an earthquake in 1972. Furthermore, in recent years she's also started to focus on the environment, speaking in public about moving on from the use of petrol and even launching an online campaign called “Plant a Pledge initiative”, which aims to restore 150 million hectares of forest around the world by 2020. However, these are only a fraction of the amazing things Jagger has done. Overall, she's contributed to improved rights for women, minority groups, victims of conflict, victims of natural disaster and also helped the environment. 

Aside from her political work, Jagger is also known for her groundbreaking style. Described as the original “It” girl by some, her style ranged from sleek and smart, to sexy disco-queen. I personally think that what was so admirable about her style was that she always looks so put together and so glamorous, and furthermore, doing this while always still looking so damn cool. When she wasn’t wearing beautiful chic gowns, she was wearing stylish suits, sometimes even men’s suits (and they still looked beautiful). Even when wearing a simple shirt, she carried herself with such elegance. I also have to credit this to her looks. She is gorgeous, and barely needed to wear much more than her red lipstick, oversized sunglasses or one of her many charming hats to look like the bewitching superstar that she truly is.  (Jagger is still very much alive, i’m just referencing her most famous time). Overall, her fashion sense is iconic, and still serves as inspiration today.
