Happy black history month! represent your country!! I’m asking this to every black simmers, what’s your ethnicity?
Happy Black History Month!! Capitalize that B!! I am a Black American descendant of chattel slavery. I had to pay money to a DNA company to determine that the majority of my ancestors were stolen from Nigeria.
I want to note that not all of us Black Amercans have the privilege of knowing our ancestry or our ethnic origin. That's why its important to capitalize the B. We have to literally pay money to find our origins, our roots. Some of us have stronger oral histories so asking a granny or a great-granny (and writing down what they say) has led to so many discoveries. If you don't know what country your ancestors came from, don't feel bad, ever. White supremacy is vicious.
I know that wasn't your intent, however it is a privilege to be a Black American and know where your ancestors were stolen from. As far back as we went in public records, when your ancestors are property, you get to a point where you don't see names anymore and therefore cannot trace any further back.
