Hey Lee 😊 How are you? I've been reading your story and like a lot of us here, I've also been impressed by the editing work! Congrats for that! I was wondering, do you have any advice in order to create backgrounds? I've planned a car scene and I was wondering how you did it? I've seen your answer about that recently but I just wanted to know if you had any advice without using PS 😅 (yes, I admit I only use Pixlr when I edit)
Okay first things first I felt that pixlr thing because that was ALL I used when I first started (and I’m not gonna lie old pixlr advanced HIT but I’m not so sure about the updated one) I played around a little to see what could be done and luckily enough
I was able to manage a bg replacement and minor tweaking in about a minute (just with a good ol mouse and pixlr!)
Quick Tutorial under the cut!
Step 1. Take screenshots in a well lit room with green screen or any particularly bright walls that are not heavily used in your sims. Again, green or blue have been the best. I have discovered this works best with flat lighting because anything particular dynamic makes the selection process a BITCH I chose this one
Step 2. When you’re in Pixlr, use the magic wand tool to select and delete all the green, because it’s pretty flat with few shadows it should be pretty clean (I don’t know how to feather on pixlr though but that would be how you get smoother lines)
Like so, so you now have a transparent bg. At this point it’s best to unlock your background layer which can be done with a right click
Step 3. Slide your background of choice in there. I just searched a road on google and then proceeded to go into adjustments and then messed around in zoom blur until i got my desired motion blur
Step 4. Mess around with levels so you can match the color grade of both images a little better. You don’t need to make both warmer, I just like heavy contrast for some reason
Step 5. If you want to add a little lighting and shadows you can make another layer and use white or any very light color and just go ham and then switch that layer to overlay or soft light, whichever effect you like better. Overlay is usually a little harsher with dark colors so i recommend soft light for shadows and overlay for highlights/lights
AND THEN YOU’RE PRETTY MUCH DONE! You could go in and smooth some of the sharp pixles around your cut out with blur or i’m sure theres an easier way in there somewhere lol but yeah! There’s your background replacement!
