The Entrepreneur
Cass walked out from behind the register and slightly straightened a foam skull she had displayed on the endcap across from her. She did that often. She should have just moved it to a spot away from the air conditioning vent, but it gave her something to do, while she waited for customers who weren’t going to come. Her store The Dark Side, was the only alternative lifestyle shop in town. Goth stuff, punk stuff, metal stuff. Band shirts, posters. Crystals, incense, pipes, bongs. A section in the back with a rope across the entrance for sex toys and kinky clothes. Skulls of all descriptions. Vintage vinyls. A couple horror character standees. Victorian ribbons and ruffles. Steampunk hats and monocles.Â
She had yet to break even on the place, much less turn a profit. This boring fucking town. She’d seen an unfilled niche and tried to take advantage of it, but it had been left unfilled for lack of interest. The adults weren’t interested, the kids were warned with punishment if they set foot there. She tinkered with the idea of impaling herself with a skeleton lawn flamingo.Â
