Bettablr I need your help!! (Please!)
I adopted my betta fish Achilles in September. He is alone in a 5 gal, filtered tank. I have noticed over the last month his fins appear torn and I’m not sure why! I tried to get good photos but the wiggles made it difficult...
I track my water parameters weekly and they have been close to perfect every time I check. I do weekly water changes of about 1 gal and every 2 weeks I do a 25%-50% water change and vacuum the sand. Obviously, if any of my water parameters are off I do a bigger water change. He has 2 hides of different sizes, 3 live plants and 2 moss balls. There are not any sharp objects his fins could be getting caught on. (See tank setup below)
I feed him aqueon betta pellets 2 times a day at 6:30am and 6:30pm. He gets 2 in the morning and 2 at night so 4 total a day. I bought him blood worms but he won’t eat them
Current water parameters:
temperature: 79 F (kept steady by a heater)
ammonia: 0
nitrite: 0
nitrate: 10ppm
ph: 7.8
I put a paper towel at the back of the tank because I noticed that if the lighting is just right he is able to see his reflection off the back of the filter and tries to fight himself and I don’t want him to get stressed.
If there is anything I should be doing differently I would really appreciate your help! I want my boy to have the best.
Any idea why his fins look like that??
