research 1598 politics (me beth and joe)
my roles:
political views in much ado about nothing?
the missuse of political power was a big focus in the production in 1598.
Also how women in that era would lose their honor by public shaming and how this could be over false accusations and falcities as women could not defend themselves in that time.
don pedro is somewhat of a prince and therefore has the most political power using it to help other however rather than hearing ful stories of both sides he believes the people closer to him and casts out hero. however he is only doing what he believes is right as he was also fooled by don johns scheem and made a rash decision baserd upon where everyone followed because of his importance going against their own beliefs to follow don pedro.
political view in much ado about nothing on war?
don john has a political and millitarial opposition to don pedro as they are rivals within the production.
Throughout the play, images of war symbolize verbal arguments and confrontations. At the beginning of the play, Leonato relates to the other characters that there is a “merry war” between Beatrice and Benedick: “They never meet but there’s a skirmish of wit between them” skirmish meaning a fight reffering top war. Beatrice carries on the idea of this imagery describing about when she 'won the last duel with Benedick' saying how “four of his five wits went halting off”. When Benedick arrives, their witty exchange resembles the blows delivered in a fencing tournament or in modern day a bar brawl. Leonato accuses Claudio of killing Hero with words: “Thy slander hath gone through and through her heart” meaning your words will kill her love for you (and will kill her phisically in that time). Later in that scene, Benedick violently chalenges Claudio verbally to duel to the death over Hero’s honor. When Borachio confesses to staging the loss of Hero’s innocence, Don Pedro describes this evidence as a sword that tears through Claudio’s heart (making him feel remorse and grief for what he has done how he verbally slandered her) “Runs not this speech like iron through your blood?", and Claudio responds that he has already figuratively committed suicide upon hearing these words “I have drunk poison whiles he uttered it”
