Did you know that Tierra del Fuego, or the Land of Fire, is an island of souls? Long before the European settlers, Tierra del Fuego was inhabited by the native Selk’nam people. They roamed the island as semi-nomadic hunter gatherers, passing down their stories and traditions in the form of long songs. Deeply in sync with their natural surroundings, the Selk’nam believed that after death, their souls became a part of the island: every rock, seagull, beetle, and seal, according to them, was a Selk’nam soul, and the island was a part of them as much as they were the part of Tierra del Fuego.
