maybe you’re right, but whenever I see examples of ‘games as art’ it’s typically stuff like centipede and space invaders, because retro games were the forerunners of gameplay, kind of like gaming renaissance
tru
I always see the typical artsy games like flower and stuff
it's entirely possible that I'm just not "cultured" or something though because i really tend to hate those games
I wish people would stop TRYING to make "art". I feel like it always ends up the same way. It's pretty, it has a nice atmosphere....and it lasts for all of like 15 minutes while you amble around pointlessly. I think people are trying way too hard to make a game that could be "art" than they are trying to make a game that's GOOD and that could hold its own against other forms of media, which I think would make a lot more sense

personally games should not be art because of story or visuals. gameplay is the inherent thing that makes a video game a video game. that is what a game should be judged on to be considered art.
man I don't know how you can just detach the story and stuff from it though. if gameplay was the only thing we could really use to determine artistic merit in games, prototype would have been some real great "art" and nobody would remember or still talk about silent hill 2

Rule 2: Answer the questions the person who tagged you has written and write 11 new ones. (My new ones are at the bottom for everyone I tagged here).
Rule 3:Tag 11 new people and link them to your post.
Rule 4: Let them know you’ve tagged.
1. How’d you get into Tumblr?
Honestly, I was bored one day, and I wanted to start a blog. Tumblr felt like a good start.
..Turns out it wasn't. I barely write blog posts, its just mostly reblogging stuff from the people I like/Follow
2. What kind of music do you dig most?
I mostly listen to Rock. But over the years, I've learned that you need to branch out, and step out of your comfort zone, try new artists, etc. My job and my girlfriend has played a big role in that.
3. Has an internet meme ever caused you to physically cringe? What was it?
Mudkips. That meme was never funny to me, and never will be. And using it over and over doesn't make you an internet geek. That, and Chuck Norris Jokes. Don't get me wrong, I love Walker: Texas Ranger, and Delta Force and such, but seriously. They're overused and not that funny anymore.
4. Most disgusting but also hilarious thing you’ve ever seen?
This one video I saw where this guy Skateboards, squats over while doing his thing, and just drops a deuce on the road.
5. Do you ever read/watch/play/do something just to have more reasons to hate it?
Hell no. If I don't like it, then I don't like it.
6. Money being a non-issue, what not-so-conventional rooms would your dream house have?
I don't know, to be honest. Probably just a bunch of TV's Modded together, for lan parties, a damn good computer or 2, ALL THE GAME CONSOLES, A sweet ass shelf to hold pretty much all of my media, and a little spot where a cubicle with a desk, and a computer, for when I want to do my thing in solitude. And by thing I mean internet porn. (No, jk kinda. But for when I want to write/draw/whatever.) Said room would have to be HUGE.
7. Skiing or snowboarding?
Neither. Ok, maybe Snowboarding if I ever had the chance.
8. Do you find fandom on Tumblr to be generally great or not so great as a whole?
Depends on what fandoms you follow in the tags.
9. What’s you dream job?
To just simply exist. (In other words, that's still a work in progress. I'm torn between a lot of things.)
10. How easily can money convince you to do things?
Like for favors? Depends on the favor, and how much you're paying me. If it's something that requires me to go out of my way, I'll do it for free if I like you enough.
11. Something you do/use in your day to day life that most people don’t?
My Aeropress. It's Manual Labored Esspresso shots to the damn near max. You boil water for a few minutes, put your scooped up ground coffee in this chamber that sits over the top of your cup, pour water in there, stir contents for like 10(I like to stir for 20, I grind my coffee very fine), and use the plunger part to push down gently, and BAM. QUAD SHOT ESSPRESSO FOR MY BITCH ASS. Sometimes I want to fill as close to the top as possible, so I'll add more hot water and make it an Americano.
11 Questions for anyone else who might respond to my tags maybe:
Answers to missmanta:
1. Do you have a code/mantra/words of wisdom that you live by?
Live and let live. Like what you like, and let others do the same. And just know that it's ok to not like what other people like. But also know that they may not like what you like, and that's ok too.
2. List a few of your favorite things, in rhyming verse
Games and dames and planes, oh my! Coffee and Tech, what the feck?! Cartoons, Full Moons, and Musical Tunes, and.. Ok I don't know where I'm going with this.
3. If you had to legally change your name, but you could pick the new name (no respellings) what would you name yourself?
"Quinten Valdez" rolls off the tongue quite nicely.
4. One book, one movie, and one piece of art that you think everyone should experience at least once.
I can't really say, to be honest.
5. What’s your spirit animal? May or may not be an actual animal.
Everyone, for different reasons, call me a bear. So I guess I'll just go with that.
6. One subject or area of interest that, if you had a hundred lifetimes, you could see yourself spending at least one lifetime studying/practicing. (If you already plan on spending your life studying one thing, congrats on living your dreams! What would be your second choice?)
Writing, and then Maybe Drawing, or Acting.
7. What’s your favorite part of your own body?
My Face. I can make it really ugly, and funny. But it's also very rugged, and handsome. It's my meal ticket, pretty much. Even though it looks mad, and standoff-ish most of the time.
8. Name your 8 favorite people in real life and explain why you love each in just 1 word
*sigh*
Mike (Creative)
Blaine (Funny)
Rob (Smart)
Daisy (Girlfriend)
Ana (Real)
Letticia (Confide)
Jorge (Role Model)
John (Open-Minded)
9. You’re permanently zapped into a) a strange fantasy alternate universe (aka fantastic magic) or b) a strange sci-fi alternate universe (aka fantastic science), which would you prefer and why?
Sci-Fi, for sure. Preferably something either technologically advanced, or Post-Apocalyptic, with a mix of advanced technology, and crude, make-shift inventions all over the place.
10. What’s a current issue that you feel passionately about?
All of the controversy over "Video Game Violence", ever since that school shooting in Connecticut. It's a tragedy, yeah. But for fucks sake, let the people effected by it mourn, stop glorifying the person who did it, and stop using video games as a Scapegoat.
11. THIS ONE ISN’T A QUESTION IT’S A CHALLENGE. TELL 5 PEOPLE YOU LOVE THEM TODAY.
Ok, I guess.
bomberthecosmonaut's 11 Questions:
1. What are you doing? Like, right now?
2. What made you want to follow me?
3. How do you feel about Sterotypes?
4. Any particular article of clothing you're attatched to? (Favorite Shirt/Pair of Pants/Coat)
5. Want to smell my finger?
6. Would you like to travel to another country some day? If yes, where, and if so, why?
7. Did you wash your hands?
8. Do you like hurting people?
9. Did you get the reference from question 8?
10. Are you a Coffee kinda guy, or a Tea kinda guy?
11. Are you the type of person to reach out to someone, or do you wait for them to reach out to you?
Gonna tag some peeps now. You don't necessarily have to do it, but I feel like I don't really talk to a lot of the people I mutually follow. So yeah.
